American Spell Check

How does the spell-check work when writing posts? It seems to be using American dictionary – is that a function of my browser or something at Media UK end?

That is your browser… I don’t have any spell checking here.

If you are using Chrome, click on the far right button that has three horizontal lines > settings > scroll to the bottom > advanced settings > Language and spell checker settings…

Done that, but it says “This language cannot be used for spell checking”

The cheek of it, who do these yanks think they are?!

You can delete american English off the list. Don’t if that will enable it now. I have got mine working now after fiddling with it.

Yep I did the same – but even though I only have “English” it still nags me with American spellings.
Silly how annoying it is telling you something is spelt wrong when it ISN’T. Maybe it will work when I close and re-open the browser…

I’m using version 24.0.1312.57 m of Chrome. It might be an older version problem? Go to the About Google Chrome on the menu. I’ve got a feeling you can update there as well.

Glyn – you can simply uncheck “use a web service to help resolve spelling errors”, and it’ll not bother you with spelling errors. At least, I think.

You do need to specifically add English (United Kingdom) to the settings for Languages; and remove the English setting just in case. Then drag English (United Kingdom) to the top of the list.
