Formatting guidelines for comments/posts

posted on Sunday 30th December 2012 at 17:31

Is it possible to add a very short form of the formatting guidelines underneath the text box where you post or comment?

I always find it a bit of a hassle to go to another page to get to these guidelines. It might be easier to have them on the same page that you will comment or post on in some form or another.

Great idea. In fact, what I’ll actually do is to instigate a ‘preview’ option. Because that makes rather more sense, doesn’t it? ;)

I know it’s not quite what you asked for, but I suspect you’ll find it more useful actually; as of now, you’ll spot a magic live preview box that appears slightly below the page as you type. That way you can check that the italics and strikethroughs and stuff actually work before you press the ‘Comment’ button. Give it a go and see if it helps.

Sort of related – Would it be possible to add the formatting guide (or even the new system) to the “Post a new topic” page?

Just realised you can use html. That is a lot easier for me. Testing as follows:

blockquote

italics
bold
strikethroughs

Make sure that you use the del tag for strikethrough for HTML 5 compatibility

That probably not such a good idea. Now I’ve got everything stuck on bold now.

I suspect James will want to close this loophole

Nice for a forum to allow HTML tags!
Good old marquee tags – classic 90s internet!

I seem to be stuck on bold text though!

That should reset it!

Nope. only using style=“font-weight:normal” inside the paragraph tags seems to make your post normal again. Don’t know what went wrong there???
