Profile pictures not updating

posted on Wednesday 24th April at 12:09

I’ve logged in and out numerous times since changing my google (apps) account profile picture, but MediaUK seems stuck on my old one.

I’ve found that as well. I’ve changed it about 3 times since this one

Well spotted. You should now find that your photographs update.

(They may take up to 24 hours to fully update, since they’re served by a CDN which caches its copies.)

Phil, Peter – if you’d not mind doing the logout/login dance, I’d love to be able to double-check that my fix has worked correctly by looking at the local version of the file.

Just logged into a different PC (which I assume will kick me out on the other one?) Still getting old pic just now, but I’ll wait a while…..

I can confirm that it’s updated on the local mirror now. I’ve also confirmed it’s correctly uploaded to the CDN server (and did so at 17:41 today). You ought to see a refreshed version in the next 24 hours, depending on how quickly CloudFront wants to expire your old one. You are wearing a hat and you have no beer in your hand. ;)

I suppose I could write some code to manually expire the older version from CloudFront’s caches.

I’ll have a go tomorrow. Mine still seems to be the same.

I notice, Phil, I now see your new image on the public server, so that’s good.

Expiring from CloudFront is certainly possible, and I found the code to do so; but for now we’ll keep it as it is – a bit of a delayed reaction.
