UX tweaks, and email alertsFollow @mediaukdiscuss
You might have spotted search forms popping up on Media UK.
After undertaking a short usability review with the good folks at Blink Design Studios we’ve done some tweaks as they suggested: the main one being making our sitewide search box more visible (by adding a “search” button, top-right); and adding scoped searches on each directory index page – try our TV index to see what I mean: the search box just above the A-Z will search throughout the TV section only. These scoped searches always also search through organisations, since you might want to search for, for example, Bauer within the radio section.
You’ll also notice a more obvious footer section and a separated “share this” social media panel. Some suggested tweaks are yet to come, falling in the “more difficult to code” box.
A direct result of this is our search traffic nearly doubling (92% higher), and the amount of visitors who use search going up by over a third (35%). Just goes to show that if you listen to the experts… (grin)
On a separate note, site-generated email from email@example.com will be DKIM-signed in the next 24 hours. This basically means that our emails are much more likely to get to you, rather than being erroneously highlighted as spam. (We don’t send spam). Our email alerts, from firstname.lastname@example.org, are unaffected by this change.
As ever, ideas and recommendations are always welcome – either here or by email.
Thanks to some sterling bug-spotting by Paul Easton, we pushed a bugfix today to the unsubscribe function which – in some narrow cases – didn’t.
And, further, our site-emails are now being signed.

Look at that. Wow.
Shhh. We’ve fiddled with the fonts we use, to make them clearer, larger and prettier.
