How to get your music played on the radio
In a band? Are you a musician? Here's the best way to hear your songs on your favourite radio station...
To get your song played on the radio you'll need to send a CD copy to each individual station's Head of Music or Programme Controller/Director - you should be able to get the relevant names/addresses from the Media UK directory, or call the station(s) and ask who is the best person to send it to. (Then update the directory entry!)
Apart from specialist shows, DJs/presenters don't have much (if any) choice on what music they play on their shows.
Some stations may accept a good quality MP3 but check beforehand.
You don't need to send it to every station, though - find out whether your song would be suitable. For example, Kiss or Galaxy stations tends to play dance, r'n'b and hip-hop - so unless your song fits into one of those categories it'll be a waste of time (and postage).
Also bear in mind that radio stations get many new releases each week and only a very small percentage actually get played.
You may also like to check radio station websites - links from the Media UK directory - to see whether there are any specific new music programmes.
Finally, BBC Introducing is another way of getting your music in front of some of the brightest names in music; it lets you upload your music directly.
