Media UK

Reporter/Research Assistant, Charity Finance Magazine, Civil Society Media Ltd - England

This job is located in London, England (map)

Civil Society Media needs a bright, ambitious graduate to join its six-strong editorial team based in Clapham, South London.

Your main responsibility will be to support the planning and execution of the survey schedule for Charity Finance magazine, the leading business publication for financial decision-makers and advisers in the not-for-profit sector.

You will help to update each survey with new questions, ensure the questionnaire is sent out on time and to the right people, chase responses and collate and sort all the data when it comes in. You may also assist with the analysis of the data and the writing of the research reports.

On top of this, you will write finance and other news for our website, civilsociety.co.uk, and assist with other aspects of producing Charity Finance magazine.

The role will suit a keen graduate or second-jobber who is equally happy getting his or her head stuck into an Excel spreadsheet as interviewing the finance director of the UK’s biggest charity about his investment portfolio.

You may not necessarily understand the world of finance and financial management now, but you must be prepared to learn, and quick.

If you want to climb the ladder to a career in financial journalism then this job is an ideal first step. Not only will you immerse yourself in the language and issues of finance, but you will also learn about charities and civil society, and how they sustain themselves financially to continue their good work. What’s more, your contribution will assist them to arm themselves with the tools and knowledge they need to do so.

You may have a journalism qualification, or you may be in a finance-type role and keen to break into journalism. Either way, you must be both highly numerate and literate, have an inquiring and analytical mind and must understand the importance of speed and accuracy. Your attention to detail will be second-to-none.

Salary is dependent upon experience.
