Kamya Punjabi quits 'aging' Sahara One soap
From Biz Asia. Posted October 29 2007, 9.45pm
Popular TV actress Kamya Punjabi who currently stars in ZEE TV's soap 'Banoo Mein Teri Dulhann' and Sahara One's 'Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki' has quit the latter soap after she found out the soap was taking a generation leap.
She wasn't too concerned about the leap, what got to her was the producers demanding a change of image, i.e. to go grey and play a grandmother as part of the generation leap storyline.
Kamya told Mumbai Mirror, "I was playing mother-in-law in the show and I quite liked my role. Now with the story moving on and the next generation coming in, I have been turned into a grandmother. I am not at all comfortable playing this role and hence refused to do it.
She adds, "I wasn't convinced although the production house promised me a good character. I appreciate that they agreed to my suggestion considering that I have a very important character in the show. Today is my last day of shoot."
Kamya now wants to do a variety of roles and is interested in experimenting with comedy. For the next two months however, she wants to concentrate only on 'Dulhann'. (more)
