Geoff Hill: joined ITN in 2000 as home news editor
Virgin Media and Setanta are launching the channel in part to combat the loss of Sky Sports News from the cable platform as part of its ongoing dispute with BSkyB.
Hill joined ITN in 2000 first as home news editor and later as senior news editor for ITV News.
He took charge of the coverage of the 2004 US presidential elections, the July 7 bombings and the Israel-Lebanon conflict last year.
Hill's sports experience includes running ITN's coverage of the Football World Cup in Germany.
"Geoff has become an outstanding editor and a rising star at ITN and is the ideal person to launch this exciting new channel," said Mark Wood, chief executive of ITN.
Before joining ITN he worked on ITV's London Tonight from 1993 until 2000.
