Top 10 UK Parenting Magazines

marina k posted on Sunday 9th June at 10:43

Hello, I hope this reaches you – someone – out there. I’m from Australia and trying to find the top 10 parenting magazines in the UK. I have to say I’m finding it very difficult. Would anyone be kind enough to tell me how many parenting titles there in the UK and what are the top 10? I’d be eternally gratefull.

Hi Michael, thank you so much for your response – I really appreciate it…. I too have come up with the same list, except when I tried to delve a litte deeper, it appears that Pregnancy & Birth has been shut down, Practical Parenting no longer exists , Junior is an online publication (not print at all) and I’m not entirely sure WHAT Happy Families is !! I was kind of hoping for a bit of local intel – perhaps someone in the media industry who give me the low down on what’s what. I’d ike to book some ads into the parenting category and trying not to throw away too much money in the process!

Having looked at http://www.happyfamilies.biz/, I can see why you’re confused. I wouldn’t be rushing to advertise with them either!

For what it’s worth (it’s been a while since I bought a parenting magazine – my kids will have to make do with the ‘expertise’ I’ve got now), Mother & Baby and Practical Parenting were the big two national consumer magazines. Prima is a well-known women’s magazine, so if their baby spin-off is merging with PP, then that’ll be another big newsstand magazine. Pregnancy & Birth is the sister publication to Mother & Baby – also widely available.

Of the others, I can remember Junior launching, and it was more of an upmarket thing. I think Juno is the same. The Green Parenting and twins ones are clearly for a more niche demo.

I wonder if Happy Families, like Parent Talk, perhaps, is a free magazine. My kids bring back two or three different localised parents listings magazines with them from school every month – Primary Times, What’s On… can’t think of the names of others – they tend to come and go. Being free, I bet they have much bigger print runs, which might get them on Top 10 lists, but how many of them get thrown straight into the recycling bin is a question you might like to ask…

Michael, I thank you from the bottom of Australia! That’s exactly what I needed…. You have done me a great service.

Thanks again
