Women in the media

posted on Friday 15th February at 22:55

The Sun and The Star carried the story of the death of Reeva Steenkamp with front page filling bikini shots of the former model. The Mail ran several pages of examples of her work as lingerie model.

Then, on ITV, Daybreak were asking a question they knew was a difficult one:

All this the day after the One Billion Rising campaign’s big day of action and at a time when there’s a hope that boobs aren’t news.

All this raises a few questions: are news editors in TV and the press a bit dim, or wilfully provocative?

Is it desirable to curb this, and if so how can it be done?

Is this giving the audience what they want, or leading them in a different direction?
