World Land Trust (WLT) is a major UK charity which promotes the conservation, protection & improvement of the natural environment throughout the world.

The Trust’s digital and printed communications are vital for keeping in touch with donors and engaging new support and awareness of our work.

The Writer/Editor will assist in the writing, editing and reviewing of all digital and published materials as well as assisting with corporate communications, internal reports and presentations, along with other functions related to a wildlife conservation charity.

Person specification

Qualifications:

  • Preferably a graduate in journalism with a minimum of two years writing/editorial experience

  • Proven ability to write for a variety of different audiences, ideally including some scientific, or research based writing as well as more general communications

  • Good IT skills and comfortable with learning new software

  • Excellent proof-reading and communications skills in oral and written English

  • A good understanding of the different requirements of online and print communications

The successful candidate will be:

  • A creative thinker, but able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail

  • Capable at multi-tasking, and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines

  • A team player, but confident at working under own initiative

  • Able to manage a range of internal relationships

  • Willing to work outside normal working hours

  • Interested in environmental issues and have some knowledge of the environmental sector

Job Role

The Writer/Editor will be responsible for providing writing and editing services for WLT, primarily within the Communications, Corporate and Fundraising team, but will also work in conjunction with other staff members as appropriate, and in particular with the Web and Programmes Team, as well as with the Trust’s London-based PR agency. The role includes:

  • Writing and editing new and existing materials relating to the Trust’s activities for the website, publication, presentations and other communications

  • Maximising the potential for engaging new support through these communications working with the Director of Development and the rest of the Communications Team.

This is a full-time post based in the World Land Trust’s headquarters in Halesworth, Suffolk.
