Childrenswork is a new magazine launched in July 2012, and which has already become the UK’s most widely read magazine resource for Christians involved in all forms of work with children. Providing ideas, resources and guidance for Christian children’s leaders – Childrenswork is a bi-monthly magazine with a typical print run in excess of 6,000 copies. Closely associated is the popular website, while social media platforms are also important brand extensions. This title is ripe for further digital development. Childrenswork is a sister-title to Youthwork magazine.

Premier Media Group is looking for a Deputy Editor to support and work alongside the Childrenswork Editors to ensure that the bi-monthly publication is produced to a high standard, achieves the publication schedules and budgets and supports children’s ministry in the UK and beyond. To strengthen existing Childrenswork brand extensions (online etc). To write and edit sparkling copy for Childrenswork and other PMG platforms.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Deputise for the Editor(s) as required
• News gathering, researching and writing news, cultural analysis articles and feature length articles on children’s ministry.
• Editing contributors copy and formatting copy, ready for design.
• Writing and sub editing headlines, subheads and photo captions, proofing and correcting designs and spreads prior to publication.
• Liaising with our designer, photographers, commissioning and searching for visuals.
• Commissioning articles in liaison with the editor.
• Liaising with advertising, marketing and general management over a range of magazine and wider PMG related activities.
• Representing the magazine at events and networking with children’s workers, and a wide range of organisations working with children/ children’s workers.
• Liaising with other PMG magazine, web and radio journalists – to generate ideas and synergise content over magazine, web,radio and other digital formats.
• Liaising with web editors to edit, adapt, update and rework copy for www.childrenswork.co.uk
• General administration duties include postal, telephone and email communications and occasional lunch break cover for reception.

ABILITIES & SKILLS
• Good journalistic and copy-editing skills.
• Ideally, experience in hands-on children’s work, at the very least an active interest in children’s/youth work and preparedness to get some further experience.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Diplomatic team player with interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with clarity of thinking under pressure with speed and accuracy.
• IT skills in word processing, web, word.
• Skills in marketing, web development, social media, pod/vodcasts, communication to large groups, and/or marketing would be an advantage.
• A high level of commitment, enthusiasm and flexibility.
• Since the successful candidate will be working in a Christian environment, and dealing with Christian organisations and ministries it is important that he/she should be sympathetic to the Christian faith.
• A proactive self-starter and able to work responsibly without close supervision.
