Head of investment news for Money Marketing/Fund Strategy/Fundweb, Money Marketing - England

Centaur is looking to hire a head of investment news to work across its multi-award winning financial services titles Money Marketing, Fund Strategy and Fundweb.

The ideal candidate will have financial reporting experience and some editing experience, for example as a deputy news editor or news editor.

The role involves heading up the investment news desk, which also comprises of a deputy and three reporters.

The team works across MM, FS and FW and the candidate will be expected to contribute heavily to the editorial direction of the three titles and work with the group editor on audience development.

We are looking for an energetic journalist with a strong news sense and proven track record of working in a fast-paced news environment to contribute to the ongoing success of the three titles.

Purpose of Role

The job holder has editorial responsibility for the investment news desk of Centaur’s financial titles. This includes setting strategy and audience development in addition to managing content, deadline, word counts and team of reporters.

Context of the Role

Centaur is a leading business information, publishing and events group providing marketing and information solutions within high value professional and commercial market communities.

This position is based in the Financial Services editorial team which forms part of Centaurs Legal & Financial division. The primary focus of the financial community's products is on retail financial services and the information interface between IFAs (independent financial advisers) and the providers of financial products and services.

The editorial team produces news and analysis across the Financial Services titles which include Money Marketing, Mortgage Strategy, Fund Strategy and FundWeb.

Dimensions of the Role

Strategic

• Contributing to the editorial direction of the Money Marketing, Fund Strategy and Fund Web.

• Working with associate editors and head of news regarding investment news stories.

• Responsible for Money Marketing investment news alert with the Head of News.

• Working with Head of news regarding Investment News stories in Money Marketing.

• Growing the audience of FundWeb and increasing user engagement.

• Working with Financial Services Group Editor on audience development and user engagement strategies.

• Implementing audience and user engagement strategies across the investment news desk.

• Pushing and developing social media strategy with Financial Services Group Editor.

Relationship Management

• Attending industry events and acting as a representative of the brand.

• Developing strong working relationships with Money Marketing Associate Editor, Fund Strategy Associate Editor, Head of News and Financial Services Group Editor.

• Establishing and maintaining good communication with the team and wider departments ensuring smooth workflow is achieved to deadline.

Operational

• Driving the desk for consistent levels of output for the websites and production of a steady stream of stories.

• Working closely with the Head of Production and Financial Services Production Editor to ensure and maintain a steady copy flow of stories.

• Driving the investment news desk and leading news meetings.

• Generating story ideas and encouraging reporters to do the same.

• Checking stories for accuracy of content (e.g. facts, figures, people) and any potential legal issues.

• Ensuring articles are written in the house style in the CMS.

• Ensuring all stories written for the web maximise SEO.

• Sourcing contributors and chasing for content.

• Editing contributor articles.

• Ensuring quality of content is maintained.

• Delegating work to Deputy Investment News Editor/Reporter and as required.

• Maintaining investment news online, ensuring the information is accurate and that house style is maintained.

• Planning content and marketing through email alerts and other online media.

• Working closely with the Editorial Production team to ensure that all stories on the website are sub edited, tagged and uploaded in an accurate and timely fashion by the team

• Working closely with the Digital Operations team (in particular the Content Producers) to ensure that the design, look and feel and frequency of news alerts is optimised.

• Assembling and producing news alerts and lists, this includes ensuring accuracy of news alerts.

• Moderating online user comments.

People Management

• Ensuring journalists manage their time in the office and with contacts.

• Encouraging journalists to get exclusives and build strong relationships with contacts.

• Motivating team to submit to deadline to ensure publishing deadlines are met.

• Recruiting and training and developing new journalists as necessary.

• Organising the roster of early shifts for the reporters.

• Handle complaints from contacts/PR firms
