Online Journalist, Public Service Broadcasting Trust - England

This job is located in Winchester, England (map)

Fixers, the successful campaign that helps young people make a difference on issues that are important to them, is looking for an Online Journalist in the Winchester office. Working as part of a small team under the supervision of the Online Editor, the Online Journalist will generate and write news content for the Fixers website, covering the latest Fixes and Fixers, linking issues and themes, and writing information sections in a pithy, economic style that appeals to our mainly youthful visitors. Although mainly office-based, the Online Journalist will be expected to visit Fixers, or story subjects, to gather information ... and may be expected to take photographs, use a video camera and/or perform some video editing [after training]. The Online Journalist will be expected to contribute to discussions about website design, accessibility and navigation.

We need an enthusiastic journalist with a keen understanding of social issues, an intelligent, sympathetic approach, and an economic and easy writing style, who can work quickly, to continuous deadlines. The Online Journalist must be able to work easily with young people from all social and cultural backgrounds to sympathetically cover stories about their projects, and any related issue that might be of interest to the Fixers online audience. They will be expected to regard some evenings and weekends as part of their normal work pattern – because this is when young people are often available - and will be entitled to time off in lieu for any evening or weekend worked. Like all team members they may be asked to work in other disciplines when necessary, and to provide support or resources to other parts of Fixers.

Fixers is a project run by the Public Service Broadcasting Trust [PSBT] funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.
