Associate Editor News, Mcgraw Hill Financial - All

Platts is seeking a self-motivated reporter to cover nuclear energy outside the US. The successful candidate will join Platts' core team for covering the nuclear energy industry in-depth, including business, policy, politics, regulations and the nuclear fuel cycle for Platts’ daily, weekly and biweekly newsletters and Platts real-time news service. He/she will demonstrate the initiative and skills necessary to take ownership of the beat by identifying leading developments in the industry, reporting on them tenaciously, breaking stories whenever possible, and filing clean, error-free copy under deadlines. The candidate will also be a team player who is willing to share information, support other reporters, and accept direction from editors.
PLATTS NEWS/PRICING-POWER-UK
We have three print/electronic newsletter publications – Nucleonics Week, NuclearFuel and Inside NRC.
Nucleonics Week publishes weekly (electronic version is distributed Wednesday late afternoon, the print edition goes out Thursday). NuclearFuel and Inside NRC are published on alternate weeks (issues are sent electronically on Friday afternoons, print versions go out on Mondays).
Our flagship publication, Nucleonics Week, is largely devoted to reporting the business aspects of the industry (including plans for new plants) but can also include stories with political, financial and regulatory angles. NuclearFuel is aimed at a fuel-market audience and includes stories about uranium production, uranium pricing, uranium enrichment and fuel fabrication and disposal, storage and/or reprocessing of spent fuel. Inside NRC is mainly about the regulatory workings of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission but includes regulatory stories from outside the US.
In addition, we have a daily file of shorter items (about 250 words each) called Nuclear News Flashes that is emailed to NW subscribers at the end of each US day. Items in this pub are based on events that happened the day of publication or the day before and can be on all of the topics we cover.
In addition, all Platts reporters file stories in real time for our wire service. Our publications reflect the industry, which is global in nature. We have three staff positions in London, six in the US, and use stringer copy from around the world.
We want our reporters to generate stories based on original material, not report on what other media reported and then get reaction. Because of the competition in the news industry, we particularly are looking for people who can find angles or get additional details that someone can’t find for free on the web. And we are always watchful for how what happens in the nuclear industry can affect the electricity market (such as reactor shutdowns or expensive regulatory requirements).
Requirements include:
• Experience of professional news reporting experience in a deadline-driven environment;
• Experience and knowledge of a business beat or energy industry, particularly nuclear power, a plus
• Adept at meeting real-time and daily deadlines;
• Able to turn complex subject matter into clear, well-ordered news stories, and translate jargon into meaningful news to an informed audience;
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related fields;
• Multiple language skills strongly desired
