Editorial Manager, GlobalData Ltd - England

GlobalData is an industry analysis specialist providing business information products and services including interactive databases, reports and custom solutions covering the healthcare and energy sectors. We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic person to head up our Editorial team based in Bolton, Greater Manchester. This is a permanent full time position, working 40 hours per week. The successful candidate will play an important role in GlobalData’s ongoing efforts to monitor quality across the hundreds of market analysis reports published each year, ensuring the output is of an industry-leading standard.

The primary focus of this role is to manage a team fulfilling the following tasks:

  • Identify errors and inaccuracies in business reports, including grammatical, numeric and content errors
  • Use effective proofreading techniques to correct spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Meet required standards for productivity and accuracy
  • Understand and ensure adherence to standard internal writing style on aspects like structure, simplicity and clarity.
  • Assess and maintain the quality of analysis provided

Key aspects of the Editorial Manager role include:

· Proofreading

· Assigning tasks

· Motivating a team of internal and freelance proofreaders

· Enforcing adherence to the company’s in-house style guide

· Monitoring team performance and productivity

· Providing constructive feedback to analysts and proofreaders

· Negotiating solutions to editorial queries/issues with analysts and department heads

· Providing training on business English and style to new proofreaders and analysts whose first language may not be English.

· Communicating effectively with colleagues internationally

· Maintaining management trackers and documents

· Updating style guides and editorial manuals in response to industry/company developments

· Liaising with internal industry experts

· Time management and ability to work to tight deadlines, often balancing many projects

· Conducting recruitment where necessary for the Editorial team.

Person Specification:

Essential

  • Excellent English skills – essential to have good grades at GCSE and A levels, particularly in English
  • First language English, and passionate about its correct use
  • Meticulous with a keen eye for detail
  • Proofreading experience
  • Excellent communication skills with strong written skills in business English
  • Strong Microsoft office skills

Desirable

  • Sub-editing skills/experience
  • People and project management experience
