GulfNews.com is looking for a talented news editor to join its team.
If you have strong news judgement, able to see the stories that will generate significant traffic from the hundreds that come to us every day, as well as the ability to dig deep into copy to pull out the real story, then we want to hear from you.
Web News Editors are presently expected to be news generalists and understand what drives traffic across sections. Increasingly however a Web News Editor on GulfNews.com will be expected to have a specialisation, and we're currently particularly interested in hearing from journalists with a business news background.
As well as being able to identify strong stories quickly, strong news writing and editing skills a basic requirement of the position. Web News Editors need to be able to work at speed.
Web News Editors should have:
- A passion for news and online
- Be creative and resourceful in the ability to use content in new ways
- Be news experts, with a sensitivity to human interest
- An awareness of online trends in news delivery
- An understanding of content management systemsAwareness of what drives traffic online
- Awareness of analytics systems and how to use them an advantage
- Very strong subbing and editing abilities
- Strong news writing ability
The Web News Editor will be a strong team player, working closely and collaboratively across the editorial department. At times he or she will represents the Web at editorial meetings – and should be able to come up with and promote ideas that will enhance Web traffic.
Interested candidates should have at five years experience plus in print and web channels.
