Are you an experienced assistant editor ready to move up to editorship and utilise your excellent all-round skills? Or an editor in an existing business that's going nowhere?

Magazine Publishing, the company behind leading online photography magazine ePHOTOzine (which has more than six million visits per year) are currently seeking an Editor to join our ambitious publishing team.

We are looking for a highly versatile person with proven leadership skills, a solid track record of developing and executing media strategy - both in print and web based products in written and video formats. The ideal candidate would also have solid news judgement, good photographic knowledge and some magazine layout experience.

Working as part of a small, highly-motivated team the successful candidate will provide management and leadership to our editorial team, while working closely with the advertising and web team, publisher, clients and members/subscribers. The editor will also manage, edit, commission and write editorial content across our portfolio of photography based web and print products.

The candidate will possess strong analytical, organizational, and strategic thinking skills. and have both the imagination and ability to implement action to bring about the best results for our growing consumer audience.

Responsibilities:
Work closely with the publisher to formulate ongoing editorial strategy.

Take primary responsibility for the day-to-day running of the editorial portfolio.

Set and ensure editorial standards are met and exceeded.

Conceive, develop and implement ideas for new editorial features on a regular basis, to benefit and grow our online audience.

Originate, collect, capture, process and edit photos, graphics, audio, video and other content elements.

Manage the editorial team on various projects, including responsibility for overall workflow; hiring and training of editorial staff; and feedback/performance evaluation of editorial staff.

Ensure the editorial team delivers original, compelling and engaging online photography content including news, features, techniques and reviews on a daily basis

Keep up to date with emerging technologies and trends and translate these into results for our organisation and audience.

Build relationships with leading photography opinion formers and be a figure head for the products.

Commission articles and manage contributors so that the printed publications are produced to schedule and to budget.

Establish good working relations with all other internal departments and staff.

Demonstrate keen commercial awareness and actively work with the sales teams to enhance the commercial viability of the products.

Actively contribute to new business efforts, demonstrating initiative and commercial ideas that impact on the bottom line.

Personal attributes - essential
• Minimum two years editing experience as assistant editor or editor or significant experience in a similar role including people management responsibilities.
• A passion for photography and a talent for taking great images
• Excellent grasp of grammar, punctuation and spelling with ability to write fluently and coherently.
• Attention to detail.
• First class subbing and proof-reading skills.
• Superior organisational skills and ability to meet demanding deadlines.
• High level of creativity and innovation; a self-starter who can prioritise and work autonomously.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude with good verbal communication skills .
• Interest in photography and related technology.
• Good working knowledge of Office software, content management systems, Photoshop, HTML, Video editing software and InDesign.
• Ability to manage and prioritise own workload.

• Able to work under tight deadlines with little supervision.
• Solid experience in online media.
• Computer literate in PC environment.
• Results-driven.
• Ability to think situations through by creative problem solving and arrive at viable solutions.
• Outstanding communication skills whether face to face, by telephone or by email.

• A understanding of video and audio podcasts

Personal attributes - desireable
• Degree in journalism or related field preferred
• Working knowledge of web standards, search engine optimisation and usability and accessibility issues.

Hours, Salary, location and applications

Working hours: Full time with a standard 37.5 hour week. The usual office hours of 9-5.30 apply (finish at 4:00pm on Friday), although we do have a degree of flexibility for the right person. This is an office based role, please do not apply if you want to work remotely.

We have a casual dress-code and use computers fitted with dual monitors to make your life easier. Our state of the art offices are based in Shireoaks, near Worksop and are easily accessible by train from Sheffield and the A1 / M1 motorway network. The premises have free secure parking and a stylish wireless Internet cafeteria.

Salary: is negotiable and opportunities for promotion are excellent. We are currently considering a profit share scheme.

Holiday entitlement: 20 working days per year of which 3 must be taken over the working days between Christmas and New Year, plus English statutory holidays, rising to 22 after 3 years service and 25 after 5 years service.

Location: Magezine Publishing is at The Turbine, Shireoaks Triangle Business Park, Coach Crescent, Shireoaks, Worksop, S81 8AP. Situated at the junction of the A57 Worksop by-pass and Shireoaks Road, 4kms (2.5 miles) north west of Worksop Town Centre, 9 kms (5.5 miles) west of the A1 and 10.5 kms (6.5 miles) east of M1 Junction 31.
