Associate editor – Petrochemicals, Platts - England

We are currently recruiting for an associate editor to provide guidance to the global petrochemicals team in general, and the European petrochemicals team in particular, on the news focus and news directions. Apart from the traditional strong focus on reporting of petrochemicals price developments, the candidate is required to explore other avenues where Platts can show its news relevance.
The candidate will also require to report, from time to time when the need arises, on the trading and business activities in the European petrochemicals markets, specifically in the European and African polymers markets. The role is key to assisting price editors in gathering pricing information and market intelligence, and then forming that information into price assessments and published market commentaries and news updates. The role covers various subjects including supply and demand, infrastructure issues, transportation, regulation, etc and the impact of those issues on European polymers markets.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the global/European team as a news champion by developing clear objectives and guidelines to address the regional developments in the olefins, polymers, aromatics, solvents and intermediates markets
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly global petrochemicals market reviews which will be used as the basis for industry white papers, marketing collaterals and press releases. Petrochemical companies are also looking to Platts to summaries the developments of the markets on a quarterly basis, and the candidate will be the point person to prepare this basic review
  • As a back-up to market covers, the candidate will be required to speak to producers, consumers, traders and distributors of polymers in Northwest Europe to gather intelligence on prices of these products as well as issues affecting the demand/supply of these products.

Qualifications:
  • Prior exposure to reporting/writing/analytical experience preferably in the petrochemicals industry
  • BA degree in journalism or business - Master's degree in journalism/business or economics a plus.
  • People management skills a plus
  • Strong  communication skills
  • Adaptable and works well in a team environment
  • Solid math skills
  • Solid organizational and time management skills
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and ability to identify errors
  • Multilingual capabilities a plus
