Has the networked Capital paid-off?
Follow @mediaukdiscussIn December, this website saw lots of people, very upset about Capital FM’s networking.
We’d lose Trent FM, Red Dragon, Leicester Sound, and other heritage stations. It was enough of a concern for some people to make rather emotive statements comparing what Global Radio was doing to mass cultural genocide.
But, nearly six months on, what are everyone’s feelings? Are we missing Galaxy? Or is the Capital name and networked programming sounding even better?
What are your thoughts?
I certainly miss Galaxy. Thre is certainly a big change between the two stations in terms of format, and Capital doesn’t seem to have the same ‘cool credibility’ in the same way as Galaxy did.
If you look at the RAJAR, it’s working. I honestly didn’t think it would work, but it seems to be doing the job.
East Midlands breakfast needs to change. Twiggy & Emma are great for Nottingham on their own, but do not translate anywhere near as well to Leicester and Derby.
The processing is still beyond dire, though.
For me personally, I prefer everything about Kiss by a country mile.
Long may Emma and Twiggy continue on East Midlands Brekky ;)
I wonder what makes you say that!
...that said, I’d be very interested to see the individual figures for the 105.4 TSA – the only one which had no presenters carried over from the old station.
Lots of people still call it Red Dragon around here; and while some of the hysteria from me and others about cultural genocide may still apply in our radio-rose-tinted specs, to be honest most of the audience that Capital serve don’t really care what it’s called or who’s doing the talky bits between songs (most of them sound the same anyway) – they just want top40 music in the background. To the audience it doesn’t matter. To us it does. But do we matter?
I listen to Capital quite a lot in the car, and I think the networked programming sounds good. To be honest, it’s better than the regional breakfast here in the NE.
But I will be glad when they’ve finished promoting the Summertime Ball, I’m heartily sick of that.
