Unless the Competition Commission pulls a stunner, Global are going to do anything – and I mean anything – to allow them to keep at least the Real Radio network, which I’m afraid WILL be converted over to Heart.

I think the best thing Real affectionados can do is embrace the change. See it as the force for good it will be.

I have a ban hammer. And I will use it. Next time I am near a proper computer. And That Is True.

I’m assuming you’re not posting from a proper computer right now then, James?

Can someone re-interpret the first post into English please? My eyes and brain began to hurt after the tenth word.

I believe the poster is using Voice-To-Text software for the physically challenged, if so perhaps some of the comments so far could be seen to be a little misplaced.

The message boils down to:

I want something to happen and I don’t just think it will be better if it happens.. it WILL be better.. FACT! But I will not bother explaining why it will be better, because you lot our there out there with your simple minds won’t have the capacity to understand my superior logic and reasoning, anyway.

I need to tell the world because my thoughts are important. More important than everyone else’s that I will not even notice of any replies resulting from my post. But please do read my post right now so you can share my pain.

Just to confirm that I have used the Ban Hammer (for the fourth time).

In terms of Global Radio and the Competition Commission, that is an interesting discussion; but given that Global Radio already sell airtime for Real and Smooth on a national basis, there’s no anti-competitive question to answer, in my view.

We already have a strong, national, broadcaster in the BBC. There’s no reason, I don’t think, to have a strong, national broadcaster in Global Radio too; and a strong broadcaster ensures that the medium itself is in fine commercial shape.

But where is the innovation James? Isn’t that a vital ingredient for any healthy industry?

Should I wish to listen to the radio right now, I can choose from around 20,000 radio stations, available instantly via the TuneIn website. 45 of those stations will be owned by Global+Real/Smooth.

Tomorrow morning I’ll wake up to a DAB Digital Radio with 61 radio stations on it. 9 of those will be owned by Global+Real/Smooth.

If I lived in Coventry, my analogue radio dial would have 16 stations on it. 4 of these will be owned by Global+Real/Smooth. If I upgraded to digital, I’d have 45 stations on there. 9 of those will be owned by Global+Real/Smooth.

But I’m not listening to the radio. I’m sitting listening to Spotify playing me a selection of songs it thinks I’ll like. I could choose from Rdio, Aupeo, YouTube playlists, and with a bit of jiggery-pokery, services from the US too. I’m putting the telly on. I’m listening to the 12,000 tracks I apparently have uploaded in Google Music.

I think we’ve innovation enough; and a Global+Real/Smooth merger won’t have any effect on that.
