BBC Radio Manchester: in need of change to some presenters
Follow @mediaukdiscussThere are GMR presenters who may have been good on TV, but they are not really good enough for radio or have become past their sell-by date, musty. Presenters need to have some personality in their voice. Just listen to the likes of Billy Butler (Merseyside), Steve Allen (LBC) and Tony Livesey (Radio 5 live)to name a few. they are entertaining to listen too. This is what Joe public LIKES to listen too.
GMR listeners are moving on to better radio programmes as GMR sounds a little bit boring, well a lot boring really. Lets have some changes before you lose more listeners, your share has taken a very big dip of late, I think it has lost its way and needs a revamp to get back to how it used to be.
Cannot football items and interviews with personalities be broadcast on your dedicated footy programmes, there are enough of them. There is nothing more of a turn-off than listening to a radio station constantly interupting with football items of very little interest. It seems to me to be filling broadcast time. Listening to notable SPORTS news is acceptable broadcasting. but 95% football is of little interest at all.
Just because you don’t like football doesn’t mean others don’t.
I would guess a lot of people in Manchester follow football, I used to live in Portsmouth, the local radio station who did football had most of the city tuned in on match day.
Next you will be saying talkSPORT has to much “SPORT” on it, and Sky SPORTS should do more light entertainment rather than constant SPORT. Sport is what pays the bills at most commercial places, live with it.

Well BOB (said in an Edmund Blackadder way), I love football, thank you very much, a Manchester United fan of 32 years standing.
What I’m saying is I would preferred E&J’s slot to be earlier. They probably get more listeners than Gordon B in the 2 hours preceding.

DQF may reduce the amount of non-commentary sports output on Radio Manchester.
BBC London 94.9 is expected to lose the vast majority of it’s massive sports output which is on 7 days a week down here.
To Bob. F and others.
I do like football, so there, but not when I tune in to listen to general chat or music. Try reading between the lines before piping off. Two good games today. really enjoyed listening to them on GMR from 13.00. DS.

Well, it looks like BBC Manchester will be getting a new Managing Editor soon, so maybe other change will follow

David – might I ask why you’re calling it GMR, when it’s not been called that since 2006?
Is this a deliberate thing, or do you genuinely believe the station’s still called that?
I’m sorry, but normally I can’t see what is between the lines as there is nothing written there.
I could count the number of times I have been to Manchester with one finger, so it has very little interest to me. But I find a lot of “media” people believe that because they don’t like sport no one else does. I have worked in Sports Media for over ten years now, and the feedback we get from listeners/viewers is to the contrary of what most PC’s think.
Well i’d be happy to go to the BBC in Manchester

I wish they would have put Eamonn & Jimmy’s Sunday show at 9 or 10 am, because 3 out of 4 weeks it gets curtailed because of football coverage.
