Mic for Computer

Hi Guys,

Been on the lookout for a USB mic’ so I bought the AKG 120… BUT... there is no way to monitor what I’m doing (no headphone socket or no way to listen through computer in real time).

So, I want to run a mic into my computer. Do I need a preamp or is there a really good USB with a headphone socket? Also what mic and pre amp would you recommend? So, mic into preamp/compressor into PC. What do you reckon?

Thanks,

Robin B

As far as getting a mic into your computer (with headphone monitoring) I’d recommend the Focusrite Saffire 6 http://www.focusrite.com/products/audio_interfaces/saffire_6_usb/ I use an Audio Technica AT4033 into it and it sounds great.

I was once told to avoid USB Mics because of the electrical interference picked up along the chain, and the impact that would have on the sound quality… I’d always go via a pre-amp or a mixer personally.
