Mic for Computer
Follow @mediaukdiscussHi Guys,
Been on the lookout for a USB mic’ so I bought the AKG 120… BUT... there is no way to monitor what I’m doing (no headphone socket or no way to listen through computer in real time).
So, I want to run a mic into my computer. Do I need a preamp or is there a really good USB with a headphone socket? Also what mic and pre amp would you recommend? So, mic into preamp/compressor into PC. What do you reckon?
Thanks,
Robin B
you know what! I have a normal studio mic and found a USB to XLR jack for 7 quid off ebay – amazing not sure how it does it but its the dogs!

I was once told to avoid USB Mics because of the electrical interference picked up along the chain, and the impact that would have on the sound quality… I’d always go via a pre-amp or a mixer personally.
Hi Bill… just emailed you. RB
Thanks so much for the comments and links… really helpful! Yeah James I would prefer a standalone mic etc… but will only use it quite infrequently… Danny I did checkout and bookmark what you said… Stephen nice one on that lead… bloody they do everything eh! RB (oh and Bill I have emailed you).
Is your mic phantom powered?
No just a cheap one lol sounds great tho
lol, I have a AT4033 and going through a mixer and is a little hissy
How do I upload audio on here?

It does sound good
As far as getting a mic into your computer (with headphone monitoring) I’d recommend the Focusrite Saffire 6 http://www.focusrite.com/products/audio_interfaces/saffire_6_usb/ I use an Audio Technica AT4033 into it and it sounds great.
