Processing Software

I’m currently using a program called Break away or BBP on a PC for station output processing, although the station sounds nice a crisp, it’s not catching levels quick enough.
I have tweaked and tweaked and tweaked, However I just wondered if anyone had come across any other processing software – particularly more so for compressing / limiting live audio?
Any help would be appreciated.

Richie – what do you mean it is not catching the levels quickly enough? If you are using a modulation meter and are saying the final peak limiting is not working I’m surprised – Breakaway is one of the best software processors out there. if not the best.
Or do you just mean it is pumping or some other audio signature you do not like? If the latter I suggest you go back to basics – select a preset that is close to the sound you want and start making very small adjustments to that. With audio processing its really easy to lead yourself down a blind alley. Golden rule is “less is more” – heavily processed audio can get hard to listen to and/or sound quieter than less processed audio. Make very small adjustments, and then listen to a variety of material on a variety of radios to make a judgement – the whole process can take many weeks. Plutonium is quite a good preset to use as a start point, although I feel a little too heavy on processing.
Some background reading here.
...or as John says find £10k and buy an Optimod!

A station i provide services to were running Breakaway – but have now moved to the very latest Stereo Tool. It’s in a further league above everything else. It’ll need a top spec machine to run EVERYTHING, but you’ll not suffer any peak problems (unless you want them!)

Why not use an Orban Optimod? Or if you’re not that rich a tcelectronic Finalizer? Nothing will escape them and you won’t have cranky operating systems and virus issues etc…
