Why have they chosen “Real Radio XS”? What does it mean? http://www.mediauk.com/radio/news/go/142105

Does it have anything to do with Radio2XS – or, for that matter, the community radio station called XS in Wales?

And is the Real Radio brand adaptable enough to add additional services?

One thing I do seem to remember is that Rock Radio Manchester isn’t on DAB in Manchester because it would have been available in Bauer’s Rock FM area, and there was probably some kind of legal agreement made. Surprise – Real Radio XS will be available on DAB...

The contract with Jazz FM Investments Limited for the MXR North West DAB slot ends soon. I wonder if Real XS will be on that slot a month early as I understand the contract ends with GMG in October?

What a ridiculous name? In a national sense rock is certainly a niche and giving it a mainstream name will offend established listeners and is unlikely to gain it much if any favour amongst unsuspecting mainstream listeners. Poor judgement by amateur business men. Fast cars are a niche, you ceratinly don’t waste time branding them as economical in order to attract the odd unsuspecting mainstream consumer!

Stop re-brand of 106.1 Rock Radio to Real Radio XS.

as much as I REALLY don’t like the sound of this ‘new’ name, and also as much as I REALLY HATE real radio… the fact remains that I’d rather listen to the current line-up of presenters, music and features… and if the rebranding enables that to continue then so be it.. according to the figures Rock Radio just isn’t as commercially viable as Real Radio XS.

why not call it Real Rock?

Looks like the station goes live on September 5th, incidentally. Shame we’ll not get it on DAB in London, it would be quite a nice listen.

Who says it won’t be on DAB in London? GMG told Radio Today this week that it’s going to replace Jazz FM and be on mulitplexes in London, North West, West Mids and Central Scotland.
