DJ or Playout App for an Android

Brian Christopher Winter posted on Saturday 25th May at 18:37OK, light hearted thread here. I know that no one in their right mind would use a tablet for playout becuase the only audio connection is via a 3.5 mm jack and the sound would probably be pretty naff. But, just out of curiosty, has anyone come across any good Apps, for playout. Just a thought.

I saw someone the other day with such an App – he knows the developer and was testing it. I suggested it ought to include a cart-wall and a few days later it did! I’ll ask if it is available on Play Store – is this for a serious application, or just idle wondering?
Regarding sound cards, audio plugs etc, granted, technically it is not as good, but I think sometimes we can get a bit stuffy about this sort of thing – with the right device I bet 9 out of 10 people could not tell the difference between that and a top-notch sound card with balanced outputs. Many many smaller stations use CD decks with RCA unbalanced outputs without a problem.

Well, since I started this thread I have actually come across an App that sort of does what I would like. It’s called Party Mixer. I will be honest, it is a bit basic and I have already contacted the developer with a few suggestions, not least a search box to type in song title or artist. Thumbing up and down the screen to add tracks to the playlist editor is not what I call fun. Also, its AutoDJ mode is very crude but I have managed to tweak it a bit to be a bit better. Still, if any of you clever souls out there find anything else, I really would be most interested.

None that I know for android but it you do have a geeky techno wiz on computers at hand, I know you can put Ubuntu Linux on the Asus nexus tablet and hence you may be able to put Rivendell Radio Automation on to it.
