Microphones For Interviews

Gavin Harris posted on Wednesday 21st November 2012 at 13:44Hi,
I’m looking for some advice on microphones that would be suitable for an interview.
I am going to be using a 2 track portable recorder, and would like to set up 2 microphones on stands.
These will be placed close to the interviewer and guest, but not as close as a normal “reporters” mic. I would like it to have a nice natural, warm sound.
What would be the ideal mic for this situation? Ideally around £100 per mic. I would like the mic to have an XLR connector please.
It won’t be used in a noisy environment or outside.
Any ideas would be welcome.
Many thanks
Gavin

The zoom portable mic/recorders are superb and, if placed between the interviewee and presenter capture both sides AND allow you to monitor the audio as you go along.

Hi Gavin Are you still looking for an interview mic? I ask as I have a free report on that very subject that I am happy to send you. Regards Iain

I would be interested in seeing that Iain if you don’t mind?

Drop me an email. info@avresilience.co.uk and I will send you a copy

Hi All
As an update, the free report on interview microphones is now on my website as a pdf download. Here is the link: http://goo.gl/txLjY

I’m a big fan of the Behringer C1 which I find gives excellent results in similar conditions and roughly fits your price. I’d also suggest it might be worth considering clip on tie mics in order to ensure neither interviewer nor guest drifts ‘off mic’ as some are inclined to do. Not sure if this fits your requirements and will cost a little more but I’d suggest you look into it. All the best, Colin.
