Shoutcast Streaming

Paul Gibson posted on Monday 17th June at 17:32

Evening all,

A quick question really, without sounding stupid, it’s been playing on my mind and a few Google searches is drawing a blank.

Basically I’m after a reliable Shoutcast provider to host roughly 500 listeners at 128kps. There seem to be lots of providers out there at reasonable prices but I guess a lot of these are resellers? but where do these resellers go to as their source? If that makes sense?

Is it possible to set up your own Shoutcast server at home? I already have my own web/ email server set up.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.
Paul

Hi Paul

I’ve always used Citrus3 for streaming, and am about to do so again for http://www.minutesofmayhem.com.

They’re brilliant. And I think they’re still doing a deal where you can have unlimited listeners for less than 20 quid a month.

Hope that helps,

Neal

Yes, definitely.

For Windows: SHOUTcast DNAS server and Edcast (for streaming to the server and encoding).

For Linux: Icecast server and Darkice

You can do both encoding and server on the same machine.

The only limiting factor to the number of listeners is your internet connection.

A few stations I work with use SimplexWebs (www.simplexwebs.com) they run their own UK based shoutcast servers, and so far we have never had any issues with their services
