Streaming and transmission
Follow @mediaukdiscussHi, Can you help? Our station is broadcasting on a local mast. We are loosing the volume levels intermit-tingly, the same is happing on-line does this mean it is a ‘desk’ problem rather than a Mast problem?
Any assistance with understanding the process would be appreciated

Seems pretty evident that this is happening on all output then basically, right? Unless you’re deriving your stream input from a tuner. Based on the total lack of information on how all this hangs together…
Check:-
Desk Output (easy assuming the place is built right, on Krone frames & you can use a listen jack)
Distribution Amplifier In & Out
Be careful mind, usually those who are to be trusted with meddling with the technical parts of the radio station can figure out / isolate where the problem is – it doesn’t sound like you’re quite at that level from your initial post & might very well break more than you fix. Best call in an engineer :)

Some small stations use the Internet to feed the audio to the transmitter, so it’s possible that rather than a desk fault this could be a streaming problem. I’d strongly concur with Nik that this is a job for an experienced professional, and if you don’t know how the system is constructed, don’t meddle with it.
Thanks for that. Correctly spotted, I’m a Volunteer Presenter and know nothing about the Desk but our Station Manager said that it was a Transmitter problem while I think it is a desk problem. I can now ask some informed questions of the Management and hopefully not be fobbed off by glib answers. My apologies for all the spelling errors in the earlier post – I wrote it in haste and have cringed ever since.

Hello ,please look at what you have asked,! if the fault happens on FM. and Online at the same time,it can’t be an “mast problem” monitor the output from your desk, if that’s OK, then check other equipment in the broadcast chain up to where you split the signal to FM. and ONLINE. But most of all I/we need more information ,what equipment are you using etc.
