Entertainment News is expanding and is looking for a dynamic and truly tenacious multi-media journalist who is comfortable at attracting A-list talent to its thriving rolling showbiz news service, as well as editing and producing first-class video features.
As the UK’s leading showbiz news provider for radio, Entertainment News broadcasts to over 10 million listeners across more than 140 commercial stations around the UK and Europe. Our high quality showbiz is now online too, with clients including Yahoo! and Now magazine.
The newsroom has six journalists, with additional stringers based at our Hollywood bureau.
Entertainment News’ rolling service covers a broad range of celebrities and stories for all age groups and genres; our bulletins, featuring star-name audio, are fed to stations three times a day whilst our video bulletins hit online outlets seven times a day.
THE ROLE
• To originate engaging and original copy and audio
• To assist in originating and compiling engaging copy and audio material
• Using sound editorial and journalistic judgement to gather entertainment-based news
• To write and present audio and video bulletins
• Edit and produce video bulletins and features
• To oversee and co-ordinate forward planning and celebrity guest booking
• Conduct celebrity interviews
• Attend showcases and events, acting as an ambassador for the division and the company as a whole
• To be committed to the development of Entertainment News as an outstanding supplier of genuinely self-generated material for its clients
• Edit and produce first class video bulletins and features
ESSENTIAL
• Excellent interviewing skills
• Strong broadcast voice
• Tenacity in chasing and reporting on stories
• Ability to respond fast to breaking stories
• Willingness to ‘doorstop’ where necessary
• Excellent planning and organisational skills to win top-level interviews
• Strong news-writing ability
• Solid technical ability with portable recording equipment, and digital editing systems
• A clear understanding of broadcast law and the editorial policies of commercial radio
• Experience of video editing commercially (not vital but must be interested in learning)
• Excellent ability to work under pressure
• Outstanding team integration
• Excellent personnel skills (particularly in liaising with radio stations and PR firms)
• A high degree of self-motivation and initiative
• Ability to be highly flexible with irregular hours of work
This is a 24-hour service and involves unsociable hours and weekend work
