Content Person wanted in sub tropical paradise, Radio Scilly

This job is located in St Mary's, Isles Of Scilly, 28 miles off (map)

See our directory page for Radio Scilly

Summer in a sub tropical paradise? Well we are officially sub tropical (Gulf Stream and all that) and the Paper shop sells Bounty Bars.

And Radio Scilly, South West radio station of the year-brag,brag, is looking for a content producer.

Here's a unique opportunity to work in the most beautiful part of the UK with stunning award-winning beaches and a sub tropical climate 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall. And you'll be working at a station that a Sony Judge described as a "national treasure". Not so bad for the CV?

You'll be undertaking a unique position in radio today.
Creating features and content for broadcast from our beach-side studios and in from out in the field. No two days will be alike.
Your role will be to arrange, schedule and edit features already provided by islanders for onair broadcast and web archiving.
Devise new lifestyle features and find the local people to present them.
Quickly create a number of topical features and packages offering an islands' perspective and reaction to national events and lifestyle stories on a daily basis!
"Quickly" is the key word.
You'll be required to attend community events to retrieve audio from presentations and speeches, from Council functions to the Brownies.
You'll also have to assist and "hand-hold" new recruit volunteers.
As we're a tiny station with just 1 fulltime and 2 part-time staff, you'll also be expected to muck in with editing audio for ads, answering enquiries and generally assisting where required.

You'll need computer skills in word, audio editing and Myriad knowledge would be useful.
You'll need to be organised.
You'll need to be creative and an ideas monster.
You will have no interest in being a presenter. This is a back stage role, a facililating rather than featuring role. You won't be the star, but you'll want to make other people "shine".
You'll have passion and enthusiasm.
You won't need years of experience. We're prepared to give a newcomer to our industry a chance to develop their skills.

So what about the islands?
Have a look at this site for an overview- http://www.simplyscilly.co.uk/

Scilly is often described as Britain in the 1950s. So if you would like to become part of an active, vibrant community with virtually no crime and where everyone will know your name within a few weeks,(there's a downside to that, too) this could be for you!
There's no cinema, retail parks or nightclubs. There's plenty of social activity based around pubs, local theatre, gig racing and outdoorsy type things. You need to be realistic about accomodation. This is a village in the sea with no flats or houses to let. You will need to come over, make friends and find someone who'll let a room in the summer. You can rent an out-of-season "winter let" from November to March, though.

Apply WITH 4 ideas for packages, features that you feel our audience would be interested in. Think Saturday supplements in The Times or The Guardian rather than the tabloids and you'll get the idea. We create a lot of health, food and travel content. If you don't do this, we won't consider you because it will be obvious that you cannot follow a brief!
