Overall Purpose: Manage and create original, compelling local news content that appeals to the Hit Music Network target audience.
Duties:
Manage the running of the Nottingham Newsroom.
Responsible for maintaining News Budgets within agreed parameters.
Responsible for maintaining rotas and coaching and development of staff and freelances in the Newsroom.
Research, write, edit and present news bulletins that appeal to the target audience.
Using the full range of multi-media tools, research, write and edit local online news that creates an interactive experience for our listeners and improves online figures.
Report on and from local news and entertainment events
Ensure all content is legally sound, complies with all legal and broadcast regulations, and is consistent with brand standards.
Develop and implement news features as directed by the Programme Director
Key Working Relationships:
You will be responsible to the Programme Director, but will need to develop key relationships with the station’s Managing Director, neighbouring Global station News Editors, Regional/Group News Editors and Group Head of News. Community leaders and leaders of the Broadcast Journalism courses at Nottingham Universities are also key areas to maintain and develop.
Key Expectations:
The quality of content generated, consistent with the station brand style as measured by the Programme Director and Regional/Group News editors.
Measured contribution to the station RAJAR.
Improved unique users and page impressions to the News pages of our website.
Experience and skills:
Previous experience of creating original radio and online journalism including reporting, desk editing and bulletin production that is consistent with brand philosophies.
Excellent knowledge and experience of news operations, including familiarity with news programming, production and journalism processes and the technology used in those processes.
Excellent networking skills, with experience of contributing to effective contacts databases.
Excellent knowledge of media law.
Passionate about creating original, compelling news and current affairs content across multiple platforms and growing the station’s profile and opportunity.
