Assistant Editor, BBC Radio York, BBC

This job is located in York (map)

BBC York seeks an experienced, editorial leader to join our ambitious team. You’ll have a proven record of inspiring original story-telling and journalism, creativity, audience interaction, and of talent-coaching.

We’re in a period of consolidation and growth, having refreshed our presentation line-up, honed our station sound, and we’re focusing our local editorial, on radio and online.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with well-developed people-skills, who’ll nurture multi-platform working.

You will be a proven champion of original and probing journalism, with experience of developing big stories and big moments, such as the general election, economic downturn and recovery, climate change, health, crime, education and the cultural scene; and of generating award-winning output from these. You’ll cite recent examples in your application form.

You’ll know how to bring these stories alive through the authentic experiences of real local listeners as well as local experts.

Deputising for the Local Radio Editor, you will be at ease maintaining and forming local and strategic partnerships for the benefit of the station and its audience; you’ll be a capable planner with great organisational skills; you’ll have experience of increasing audience reach and share; and you’ll understand audience trends.

Finally, you’ll relish the challenge of BBC York’s refurbishment plans between 2010 and 2012.

Interviews and Assessments are expected to be held on Monday 30th November.

At the BBC we respect each other and celebrate our diversity so that everyone gives their best.  The BBC positively encourages applications from all parts of the community and is committed to promoting equality of opportunity.
