Multimedia Reporter for special event on Isles of Scilly, Radio Scilly

This job is located in St Mary's, Isles of Scilly (map)

Radio Scilly is looking for a reporter with audio and basic video skills to assist with our World Pilot Gigs Championships coverage.

The World Pilot Gig Championships is our islands' biggest event. And we're proud of it.
110 gig (rowing) boats from all over the world come here to race over the first May Bank Holiday. Thousands of people descend on our islands for a weekend of rowing and the occasional pint of beer.

You can read all about it at http://www.worldgigs.com.

Radio Scilly's staff and volunteers provide continuous, rolling coverage and commentary all weekend on FM, online and on loudspeakers around Hughtown. This year, we want to offer an even better service than the last 2 years.

We're looking for someone to help us uncover interesting human interest stories before the event for use as short fillers between races.
He or she will also collect and edit audio reports and shoot basic video reports for upload to our website.
During the Friday, Saturday and Sunday races, he or she will also quickly turnaround our team reporters' audio during the event.

The ideal candidate will be confident enough to walk into a heaving pub full of "merry" rowers, track down an interviewee and record a piece.

He or she will be able to "go live" from the scene on a mobile at a moment's notice and "fill" if needed.

He or she will be fast and competent editor of audio using Audacity.

He or she will be accurate under pressure as posting incorrect scores or results could result in a public lynching.

He or she will understand multimedia principles and will be able to shoot, edit and trim basic video clips for upload.

He or she won't be a clockwatcher and will be prepared to work an 0800-2200 shift on the Friday and Saturday and Sunday of the Championships. Even when the rest of the islands, except the Radio Scilly team, are in the pubs. Some of them at 8am.

Finally, the successful applicant will also need to be fast on their feet and relatively fit as he or she will need to dash around at speed on our Radio Scilly radiobike from the quay to our studios.

Knowledge of the Isles of Scilly and gig racing/ rowing would be a significant advantage but is not essential.

Basic remuneration is on offer with the amazing opportunity to create compelling showreel audio.

Accommodation in Scilly and flights from Penzance (ferry boat if you don't like or approve of air travel) will be arranged and funded by Radio Scilly.
