CN networks all but breakfast

CN Group have received approval to network all output except breakfast at five of its stations in the Midlands. Only the breakfast show will distinguish Touchradio in Coventry, Banbury, Tamworth and Stratford and Rugby FM. Three of the stations are already co-located. (more)
Touch Radio Warwick launches

The UK's newest radio station has launched in Warwick, Leamington Spa and Kenilworth. 107.3 Touch Radio started broadcasting at 7pm Friday 4th April after a five minute countdown sequence. First song played was Radio Ga Ga by Queen, and as usual we have the audio on RadioToday.co.uk. (more)

Panjab Radio all set to celebrate seven years

Popular digital station Panjab Radio is celebrating its seventh year on air this Sunday (2nd September) at its studios based in Hayes.
The day will begin at 10am and finishing at 4pm, famous Panjabi singers from India Jeet Jagjit, Ranjit Bath and Banny A, UK artists K B Dhindsa and Kuldeep Purewal will be performing on the day.
Managing Director, Surjit Singh Ghuman says, "Celebrating our birthday in signature Panjab Radio style is what we are known for. I honestly don’t think any other radio station provides for the community like we do and this is what Panjab Radio is about."
The afternoon schedule consists of well known singers performing religious songs for the audience. All of the singers are flying in from Panjab for this event. Panjab Radio presenter Ricky quotes, "Keeping a mix of cultural singers in a religious environment caters to all of our listeners, we wanted to appeal to both our older listeners and the youth, by getting famous artists to perform live adds the extra sparkle to the event."
Panjab Radio is a medium through which thousands of the world's Panjabi community, home and away, can express their views and opinions, whilst keeping in touch with their culture and roots.

CN celebrate with Citybeat

Belfast station Citybeat 96.7 is celebrating an increase in figures today as 21,000 new listeners takes the bums-on-seats figure to 146,000. Average hours are also up 1.1 per cent. The news is not so good at other CN stations though, with The Bay and Touch FM's Midland network losing listeners and hours. (more)

Bush has unveiled a DAB digital radio set with a touchscreen control panel for less than £45. The retro-styled radio has a two-line LCD display for showing station and song information, with ability to store 10 preset stations on either FM or DAB. RAJAR Quarter 2 2006 results

Official UK radio industry listening figures are out today, with details of listening habits for almost every commercial and BBC radio station in the country.
RAJAR Quarter 2 2006 will see eight new stations reporting for the first time, including U105 in Belfast and talk107 in Edinburgh. Most Emap local stations will have a revised TSA whilst stations which have changed their name will find out if it has any impact in audience numbers. In the last quarter, the Touch FM brand was born, and BBC GMR changed name back to BBC Radio Manchester. (more)

Centre re-branded as Touch FM

CN-Group owned Centre FM is no more. The station re-branded as Touch FM at 12pm with an impressive launch sequence - and an on-air launch in Coopers Square Shopping Centre in Burton-upon-Trent. The Sugababes 'Pushed the Button' to launch whilst the breakfast host Dave James was the first presenter on the station.
Centre FM launched on June 1st 1998 and leaves behind it nearly eight years of heritage in Tamworth and surround areas. The re-branding of Centre FM brings the 4th station to join the new Touch brand. Kix 96.2 and The Bear re-branded earlier this year - and the new station for Banbury started life as Touch FM in 25th february 2006. (more)

Yellow card for Touch Coventry

Touch FM 96.2 (formerly known as Kix 96.2 FM) has been issued with a temporary 'Yellow Card' from Ofcom for breaching their format.
Content Sampling Reports is the new buzz term at Ofcom as they concentrate on output rather than input - relaxing rules on how the programme is made, but concentrating on what the listener hears. The new reports are to be the main tool by which Ofcom will regulate stations, as outlined in the end-of-consultation Regulatory Statement on 'Radio - Preparing for the Future (Phase 2)', published in February. Following the 'closedown' of two CN Group-owned radio stations last week, Touch FM 96.2 in Coventry and Touch FM 102 in Stratford-upon-Avon have officially launched at 8am today.
Following an impressive five-minute launch sequence the first song played on 102 was Robbie Williams, Rock DJ, and on 96.2 it was Black Eyed Peas with Let's get it started. (more)

Two CN Group radio stations closed down this morning at 9am after telling listeners to listen for an important annoncement.
From Monday 16th January at 8am Kix 96.2fm in Coventry and The Bear 102 in Stratford-upon-Avon will both re-launch as Touch FM. (more)
Northeast applications now online

The thirteen applications submitted for the Northeast regional FM radio licence are now available on the Ofcom website.
The applications show the proposals from all thirteen documents. In brief, they are: UK Media and TLRC application as 3 Rivers Radio, GCap Media's two applications as FUN fm and XFM, UTV's All Talk FM, Chrysalis' All Rock Radio The Arrow, Celador's Touch FM for the 45+ age group, CN-Group's Northlife providing non-biased speech and music programming, Canwest's Original FM which is similar to the recently won Solent licence, Saga's 50+ service, Tim Schoonmaker and Radio UK Holdings Diamond FM (rock music), North East One - offering a grown up station with pop, rock and oldies, and finally GMG radio apply using two proposals as Rock Talk FM and Smooth FM.
