As Emap begins the process of handing over to new owners Bauer, the latest RAJAR figures paint a gloomy picture for the group outside London. The Big City portfolio of stations lost nearly a million hours, while the Magic AM network lost a further 750,000 hours. (more)

Emap promotes Hallam boss

Emap has appointed Iain Clasper, managing director of Hallam FM and Magic AM to the new role of Big City Commercial Director. The new responsibilities will be in addition to his current role at the Sheffield stations.Iain will be working with the 32 stations in the network to provide support and co-ordination between them and the national radio sales teams at Emap Advertising. DLT to perform Magic shows

Dave Lee Travis, the hairy cornflake, is the latest presenter to be hired by Emap to help keep the Magic alive. As part of the new sound to Magic stations on medium wave across the North of England, Dave Lee Travis will host a new show on Saturday mornings - which will also be broadcast on Magic in London.
From July 3rd, local Magic AM stations will have increased networking, with only a daily breakfast show remaining locally presented. (more)
Magic AM brings in DLT in programming revamp

LONDON – Emap is to reposition its eight Magic AM stations to tighten their focus on 1960s and 1970s music, and has hired one of the DJs forever linked with those years, Dave Lee Travis, to present a Saturday morning show. (more)
Magic stations to relaunch

Emap are to overhaul their Magic AM stations in June, increasing networked output and changing music format. Seven of the eight services across the North of England are thought to be reducing their local output to the minimum allowed by Ofcom - a four hour weekday breakfast show originating at each station. All local programming at weekends will also end.
Magic's music format will be re-focussed, from the current "greatest hits non-stop" mix of music from the past four decades, to a Gold format concentrating on 60s and 70s tracks. (more)
