Global confirms Galaxy launch dates and studio move

10.30am: Global Radio has set an 8 November date for the relaunch of XFM Scotland as Galaxy - followed just two weeks later by the rebranding of Power FM in Hampshire as Galaxy on 22 November. Power FM and Choice join Galaxy

As predicted several weeks ago by Radio Today, both Power FM and Choice FM in London are to become part of Global's Galaxy Network.However, while Power FM is confirmed as rebranding before the end of the year, Choice FM will not be changing name. (more)

More breaches for GCap stations

Two of GCap's former stations have been found in breach of Ofcom's rules. Both Invicta FM and Power FM conducted competitions unfairly, according to the regulators. Invicta FM pre-recorded a winner while still requesting that listeners call, while a Power FM presenter pretended her sister was a listener to "ensure continuity of programming”. (more)

FM relay transmitter for Radio 4 stolen in Wageningen

Dutch police are searching for the person or persons who stole a low-power FM relay transmitter for public network Radio 4 from premises in the town of Wageningen.  The transmitter was co-sited with the transmitter that carries local station Dalux FM, but only the Radio 4 transmitter was stolen. Power FM has been found in breach of its licence after the breakfast show team held a phone-in about what had "gone wrong during sex" for listeners. One listener complained to Ofcom that the content was not appropriate at that time of day. (more)

Fire destroys Lagos FM transmitting station

A fire has destroyed the FM transmitters of private broadcaster Daar Communications Limited serving the Lagos area. UK regulator to allow the use of low power transmitters for MP3 players

Low-power FM to become legal

Finally, the low power FM transmitters which allow us to transmit our personal music players around the house or car are set to become legal in the UK. Low power FM transmitters can be purchased from five pounds upwards, and include the popular iTrip which typically uses a frequency around 87.7Mhz FM. They are currently unauthorised for use in the UK and Europe because of the potential to cause interference to broadcast services. (more)

Kai Ludwig reports: NOS Radio 1 has also received authorization by LfK and LPR Hessen, respectively, for low power FM transmissions around the stadiums during the World Cup matches Netherlands - Ivory Coast at Stuttgart on 16 June and Netherlands - Argentina at Frankfurt am Main on 21 June. New PD appointed at Q102 Dublin

Mark is joining Q102 from MTV Networks UK & Ireland where he has been Vice President, Music, since 2002 with responsibility for devising the music policy for 9 MTV, TMF and VH1 branded channels. With more than 12 years commercial radio experience, Mark has enjoyed a highly successful 10 year career with Capital Radio plc where he was appointed Regional Programme Director of South Coast Operations in 2000. He has also worked as Programme Director at Capitals Southern FM, Power FM and Ocean FM helping these stations achieve record audiences. (more)
