XFM South Wales sold

GCap have sold XFM South Wales to Town and Country Broadcasting for an unspecified fee.The station, which was only launched six months ago, will be rebranded Nation Radio and immediately switch broadcasting from GCap's Red Dragon studios to studios based in Neath. (more)

XFM South Wales Launch Date Announced

XFM South Wales will launch on Thursday 29th November at 12pm it has been announced. The station will broadcast from the same site as GCap Media's other Welsh radio station Red Dragon FM in Cardiff.. (more)

The launch date for Xfm South Wales has been set for Thursday 29th November 2007 at 12pm. The new GCap Media station will broadcast from the Red Dragon Centre in Cardiff, on 106.8 and 107.3 FM. (more)

Swansea Sound & Radio Ceredigion Favourites in Wales

The Breakfast Show on Swansea Sound with Kevin Johns and the Drivetime Show on Radio Ceredigion with Mark Simon have been voted the Best in Wales in a poll run by Merry Media.Over the past couple of months, Merry Media has been moving from region to region across the UK to find the best breakfast and drivetime shows on the radio with votes coming from within the radio industry as well as businesses and listeners.Kevin Johns came top of the breakfast show poll with his show on Swansea Sound with 14% of the votes, second place was Jase and Mel on Red Dragon FM and in third place was Tommo on Radio Ceredigion.. Xfm to launch within months

Xfm South Wales is set to launch before the end of the year, and has announced its first two marketing appointments. Lisa Fairclough joins from sister-station Red Dragon FM, whilst new Events Manager Nick Miles rejoins GCap Media, having previously worked at BRMB and Capital. (more)

Xfm sponsors Festival24

Xfm South Wales are to sponsor Cardiff's Festival24 this year - long before the station takes to air. The live music event takes place in September, just four months after GCap Media won the FM licence from Ofcom. Sister station Red Dragon are providing musical equipment for the festival. (more)

Red Dragon FM Evening Show presenter Allan Lake has been given his show back after apparently being sacked last week for giving out his Programme Controller's mobile number on air. Lake had been hosting the show for just two weeks before being fired for the stunt. He'd been trying to get listeners to support his pleas to be kept on by the station by calling his boss. (more)

Red Dragon FM have back tracked on their controversial decision to terminate Allan Lake's contract last week. The evening presenter was popular with listeners and Red Dragon listened to public opinion and decided to keep him on.. (more)

GCap creates Welsh division

The largest radio group in the UK is creating a single Welsh region to incorporate stations from Red Dragon to Buzz 97.1. GCap Media are also bidding for the new South Wales regional with Xfm. The new division, based in Cardiff will be headed by Nick Davidson, the current MD for GCap South Wales. (more)

Red Dragon is going down the Big Brother route for their latest on-air competition. The Love Room will be a purpose built room housed in the Red Dragon complex in Cardiff Bay. The room will feature just one double bed, and will be available for viewing 24/7. (more)

John Dash joins UTV as Group PD

John Dash will join UTV Radio this month as ILR Group Programme Director with responsibility for programming across UTV’s 17 local radio stations in the UK. With more than 25 years experience in commercial radio, John is one of the industry’s most experienced programmers. A graduate of Bradford University, John was formerly programme director at Red Dragon in Cardiff, Key 103 in Manchester, Galaxy 101 in Bristol and most recently at Wave 105 on the south coast which won the accolade of ‘Commercial Station of the Year’ in 2004.
