Venezuela axes The Simpsons as bad for kids

Venezuela has forced US cartoon The Simpsons of its airwaves, calling the show a potentially bad influence on children, and filled its morning slot with reruns of the beach-and-bikini show Baywatch. The Simpsons’ satirical take on a dysfunctional American family had been shown, dubbed into Spanish, on the Televen network at an 11 am slot.

Heritage oldies station WCBS FM has returned to New York, after a gap of two years. It was at local time 1:01pm Thursday when the Beach Boys sang Do It Again, and New Yorkers finally got their oldies radio station back. Jack FM had occupied the frequency since a sudden format flip in 2005. (more)
TV helicopter camera catches Italian with mistress

A man who took his mistress to the beach made the mistake of waving to a film crew on a helicopter covering Italy’s bicycle race and was discovered by his wife.

Fen Radio & Horizon Radio Favourites in East of England

The Breakfast Show on Fen Radio hosted by Joe Rudd and The Drivetime Show on Horizon Radio hosted by Emma & Wes have been crowned the Best in the East of England in a poll on Merry Media.For the next couple of months Merry Media will be moving from one region to the next in the UK to find the best Breakfast and Drivetime shows on local radio. We have found the best in the South, South West, South East, East and now looking for the best in the East Midlands.Merry Media visitors voted for their favourite Breakfast Show in the East of England with Fen Radio's Joe Rudd winning with 18% of the votes, 1 vote ahead of KL.FM's Si and Amanda. In third place was Paul Carter from The Beach with 15% of the votes.. (more)
Radio Liberty towers at Playa de Pals to Be destroyed next week

Radio World quotes a Catalan newspaper report as saying that the thirteen radio towers formerly used by US-financed Radio Liberty at Playa de Pals in Spain are to be blown up next week. According to the report, 16 kilos of explosives will be used, and the antennas will be simultaneously destroyed at on Wednesday, 22 March at 4 pm local time (1500 UTC) by collapsing towards the beach, well away (more)
Emap stations up for award

Three out of the five nominated shortlist for Best Radio Station in the Music Week Awards 2006 - are Emap Stations. Clyde 1, Kerrang! 105.2 and Radio City 96.7 along with The Beach and BBC Radio 2 are in the shortlist.
The winner will be announced at the event on March 2nd 2006. The Music Week Awards celebrate the achievements of companies and individuals working in the UK music industry over the past year. From A&R all the way through to retail, the Awards celebrate success and innovation throughout the business - and are also the industry's biggest party of the year. (more)
New name and logo for Norwich

99.9 Radio Norwich has been confirmed as the name of the City’s new radio station, which launches later this year. The new station has also released its brand and visual identity, which has been designed by award-winning local advertising and graphic design consultancy, Creative Sponge.
99.9 Radio Norwich is a joint venture between two of the UK’s most successful local radio operators, Tindle Radio and Town and Country Broadcasting, and involves a host of local business people and personalities as Directors. Tindle Radio owns adjacent market-leading stations The Beach and North Norfolk Radio. (more)
