GMG and Bauer lead the nominations announced earlier today by IRN, with Hallam FM receiving five nominations, and 105.4 Century FM a close second with four. Real Radio Scotland received three nominations and Capital 95.8, Radio City and Viking FM were amongst those to receive two. (more)

Wow – what a year. Who’d have thought Emap and Chrysalis would be no more, Virgin Radio’s CEO would be running Gcap, and a German magazine company would be on the verge of taking over Viking FM and West Sound. (more)

Emap content director quits

Mike Bawden, commercial content director for the Big City Network, has quit his position at the 'for sale' group. Prior to taking up his current position less than a year ago, Mike was managing director of Viking FM and Magic 1161. (more)
Viking launches flood appeal

Following recent severe weather in the Hull area, Viking FM and Magic 1161 have launched an appeal to help flood victims. The Emap stations are encouraging locals to offer any support that may benefit those affected by the worst flooding in Hull since records began. (more)
Viking FM scoops UN Award

Emap station Viking FM has won one of four United Nations Department of Public Information Awards. The award was for an advert created on behalf of One Hull and Hull City Safe about 'Hate Crime', to raise awareness of racism and discrimination. (more)
More FM networking at Emap

The late night slot on Emap stations Viking FM, Radio Aire and Hallam FM is set to be networked from this evening with a new show hosted by Ian Skye and Vix Larder. The Confessional will air five nights a week, Sunday to Thursday, starting tonight (April 29th). (more)
Dan Morfitt joins Kerrang! Radio from Viking

Viking FM's Dan Morfitt has been announced as the new voice of Kerrang! Radio overnights, replacing Sean Coleman.Morfitt, who presented Viking's local alternative music show, The Sunday Session, will join Emap's West Midlands rock station this Tuesday (23 January).He will present the 2am-6am slot every weeknight, and will also front a Saturday lunchtime show on the station.Kerrang! Radio was named commercial radio station of the year in the first Radio Magazine end-of-year "best of the best" review, after it won a string of awards at the Sonys and the New York Festival.In the last set of Rajars, the station — which launched in 2004 — claimed just under 400,000 weekly listeners and a 3.4 share of the hotly-contested Brum radio market. Viking FM employee arrested

Four people have been arrested over an alleged attempt to swindle the Viking FM Mystery Voices, worth £22,000.
A station employee, a police officer and two are members of North Yorkshire Police support staff have been bailed pending further inquiries into allegations about the jackpot. (more)
Baby boom at 96.9 Viking FM

96.9 Viking FM is experiencing a baby boom after TWELVE members of staff have become new parents in the past two years - and there's still more to come! A massive 30% of Viking FM's workforce of just 40 staff has gone radio ga-ga while working at the Hull-based radio station.
Staff at Viking FM think there is something in the airwaves! During one week alone no less than three pregnancies were announced. The newest mother is 96.9 Viking FM's Breakfast Show presenter Sam Heywood, who's son Harry is three weeks old. Sam was back on-air just 42 minutes after giving birth to tell listeners she was a new mummy. Sam's co-host Mark Somers said "Sam's really impatient so it's typical that she was back on air so quickly." (more)
Viking FM to host Radio Idol

96.9 Viking FM is looking for a co-presenter for the Breakfast Show whilst Sam Heywood is on maternity leave.
Radio Idol is launched this weekend and will see the radio station searching the region for the next big thing! Open auditions will be held across East Yorkshire & North East Lincolnshire and anyone who impresses the judges will receive a ‘golden ticket’ to the next round. (more)
