EXCLUSIVE: Full Sky Digital EPG listings after reshuffle

BizAsia.co.uk brings you the full Sky Digital channel listings as they will appear after the reshuffle. There are no changes planned for following EPG categories Documentaries, Sports, Adult and Radio. Sky plans to implement a marketing campaign through a number of different media prior to the changes taking place in order to inform viewers of the changes. The new channel line up is currently scheduled to be implemented on a genre by genre basis between 05:00 and 08:00 on the dates specified below. Big screen movie about Radio Caroline reportedly planned

Filmmaker Richard Curtis is apparently making a movie about pirate radio. The Love Actually director is moving away from his traditional romantic comedies to make a film about Radio Caroline, which started broadcasting from a boat off the coast of Essex in the 60s, reports The Sun. Tindle promotion for Rees

BBC Essex's Faith producer and presenter Chris Bard has died suddenly whilst researching a broadcasting project in Ireland. The radio host had presented the Sunday faith programme on BBC Essex since 2001, and made his first broadcast on BBC Radio Kent in 1975. (more)

Ten years after the TV docu-soap Lakesiders, the BBC has reunited Essex FM breakfast show DJ Martin Day with his old boss Paul Chantler, RadioToday.co.uk can reveal. Wessex listener spots mistake

Phoenix FM gets ready to fly

The community radio station for Brentwood and Billericay in Essex is ready to go live on March 23rd. Phoenix FM launches at 7pm, with a grand switch-on by presenters and guests. The station will broadcast 25 different shows, producing around 120 hours of live broadcasting a week. (more)

New boss at BBC Radio Suffolk

Peter Cook has been appointed as the new Editor of BBC Radio Suffolk, replacing Gerald Main. Gerald has transferred to the same role at BBC Essex. For Peter it is a return to the county where he has spent much of his career gaining experience in both commercial and BBC radio. (more)

Gerald Main has been appointed to take over the role of Editor at BBC Essex from Margaret Hyde who is retiring. Gerald was previously Editor of BBC Radio Suffolk for four years from August 2002. He takes up his new position in March. He is currently working on a special project for the corporation. (more)

The big 'consolidation' of the radio industry had its pause button pressed after the big mergers of 2005. Emap and SRH stations were coming together, GCap Media sold a couple of stations and lost a few managers, UTV and SMG started talking seriously, and GMG wrote a couple of big cheques for quite a few regional radio stations.It was the year of the podcast. Podcasts were launched by The Radio Academy, Manchester Utd and Big Brother!Sally Oldham said hello and goodbye at TLRC, Michelle McManus said hello and goodbye to Clyde 1, Chris Moyles said "hello Ma'am" to The Queen, Essex FM said goodbye then hello to James Blunt, and UKRD said a final goodbye to Stroud.2006 was also a sad year for radio as we lost a number of great radio people including Alan Freeman, Nick Clarke and Mike Dickin.Join us as we go month by month through the world of UK radio during 2006, and bring you a few interesting and exclusive predictions for 2007. Regional TLRC boss joins Tindle

The Regional Managing Director for TLRC in the South John Baker, and Wessex FM Marketing and Promotions Manager Joss Baker are both joining Tindle Radio South in similar roles. John will join the group as Regional Managing Director, which includes overseeing operations at Kestrel FM in Basingstoke, Kick FM in Newbury, Delta Radio in East Hampshire and Win FM in Winchester. Both John and Jeff join the group in October and will be tasked with launching the radio station for Andover next year – a new licence awarded to Tindle Radio in July. (more)

Essex FM bans James Blunt

Essex FM has reacted to James Blunt's suggestion that anyone who doesn't like his music being played on the radio should simply switch it off. The station has announced that from today listeners will no longer hear 'You're Beautiful' and 'Goodbye My Lover'. Programme Controller Chris Cotton: "Quite often there will be popular artists that people are starting to grow weary of. This time, the number of specific comments about James Blunt were more than we have ever seen for one particular artist. The amount of feedback is enormous, so it looks like there'll be a pretty long-term ban. Eight community licences explained

On Thursday 11th May, Ofcom's Radio Licensing Committee awarded eight community radio licences. These awards are the last in Ofcom's first round of community radio licensing, which began with the receipt of 194 applications in November 2004. From these, Ofcom has now awarded a total of 107 community radio licences. The eight new stations will be: 7 Waves Radio on the Wirral in Merseyside, Talkin' Toxteth TTFM in Liverpool, Halton FM in Runcorn, Cheshire FM for Mid Cheshire, Diversity FM in Lancaster, Chelmsford Calling in Essex, Saint FM in Burnham-On-Crouch and BRFM which will serve the community on the Isle of Sheppey. Ofcom awarded a further eight community radio licences, bringing the total number of licences awarded to 107 since November 2004. The areas given licences were Leasowe in Wirral, Toxteth in Liverpool, Runcorn in Cheshire, Northwich in Cheshire, Lancaster in Lancashire, Chelmsford in Essex, Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex and Sheerness in Kent.. Southend licence award explained

Ofcom have today published details of the reason why the recent licence award in Southend was won by Southend Radio. The RLC felt that the combined backing of Stockvale Limited and Provincial Radio Limited gives Southend Radio a strong degree of financial stability, and appropriate experience of operating small stations in similar markets nearby. The involvement of Provincial Radio Limited (which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tindle Radio) would give Southend Radio the opportunity to offer a combined advertising sell, which would be likely to place the new service in a much stronger financial position in relation to the heritage station Essex FM than might otherwise be the case.
