Difficult decision for Ofcom

The awarding of the digital radio multiplex for Northamptonshire was a "particularly difficult decision" for Ofcom's Radio Licensing Committee. However, GCap won the DAB spot because of a realistic launch schedule and "very satisfactory" coverage proposals. (more)

Sabras Radio awarded space in Northamptonshire

GCap Media wins Northampton

GCap Media has won the new local digital multiplex for the Northamptonshire area. NOWdigital will provide nine commercial services, including current stations Northants 96, Gold, Connect FM. Xfm will launch in the area along with UCB and Jack FM. BBC Radio Northampton will also feature. (more)

Northants creates rugby village

Northants 96 has agreed a deal with Northampton Saints not only to cover and promote the rugby club, but also create an area in the south end of the stadium to be known as Northants 96 Village. The area is used by fans prior to home games and will now feature entertainment from the radio station. (more)

GCap Media's Northants 96 is now the official radio station of Northampton Town Football Club, aka The Cobblers, RadioToday.co.uk can reveal. Club Chairman David Cardoza announced the deal today, which includes presenter columns in the official match programme, ticket give-aways on-air and stadium branding for Northants. (more)

Northants 96 brings magic alive

GCap Media's Northants 96 is celebrating the release of the new Harry Potter film today by getting hundreds of local schoolchildren together to read the first book in the series. Each youngster is reading out half a page of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone aloud on stage at Northampton Saints' rugby ground. The station's also been broadcasting live from the event. Northamptonshire attracts 2

Two applications have been submitted to Ofcom to operate the local digital radio multiplex licence in Northamptonshire. The bidders are MuxCo Northamptonshire Ltd, owned by MuxCo and Forward Media, and Now Digital Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of GCap Media plc. (more)

300 enter hospital awards

This years National Hospital Radio Awards will take place on Saturday 31st March at the Park Hotel in Northampton, as part of the HBA's Spring Conference. This year the awards have attracted nearly 300 entries from stations across the UK. (more)

Connect FM moves to Peterborough

Connect FM, the radio station serving Kettering, Corby and Wellingborough in Northamptonshire is set to leave behind their studio base in Kettering and move outside their own broadcast area to co-locate with sister station Lite FM at the group headquarters of parent company Forward Media. (more)

Radio Northampton celebrates

There has been a significant jump in the number of listeners tuning in to BBC Radio Northampton, according to the latest figures released today by Rajar. Figures show that in the last quarter of 2005, 107,000 people listened each week – an extra 15,000 listeners in the Northamptonshire region, compared to the same time the previous year. In addition, the audience reach rose from 20.9 per cent to 24.0% over the same period – which means that nearly a quarter of the adult population in Northamptonshire is tuning in to the station each week.
