BBC London 94.9's celebrating its best ever RAJAR figures, after a quarter-on-quarter increase of 65,000 listeners. Average hours are up from just over 5 to 8 hours per listener per week, meaning a market share of 2% of all London radio listening - up from 1.5%, (more)

BBC London 94.9 are today celebrating its best set of Rajar results ever. In the last three months, BBC London 94.9 recorded a weekly audience reach of 559,000 listeners, gaining 65,000 listeners from the previous quarter and an increase of 13,000 listeners on the previous year.. (more)

Henry Bonsu: My Life In Media

Henry Bonsu, 38, is director and presenter on Colourful Radio, the new speech-based digital station aimed at Europe's African and Caribbean communities. Perhaps best known as the man axed for being "too intellectual", he has been a journalist since 1990, working on BBC radio and TV programmes including Today, World at One, Public Eye and Black Britain. For two years he anchored the Drivetime news programme on BBC London 94.9, interviewing leading politicians, business people and celebrities. He has written for The Times, The Mail on Sunday, Daily Express, The Voice, New Nation, Pride magazine and the London Evening Standard. He lives in Brixton, south London, with his girlfriend Sharlene. (more)

Frank Gillard Award Nominations 2006

The nominations for this years Frank Gillard Awards have been announced today. A record number of 25 stations  have achieved nominations in the awards which celebrate BBC Local Radio. BBC London 94.9 leads the field by being nominated in five categories and BBC Radio Berkshire with three will be hoping that lightning can strike twice - last year the station converted all three of its nominations to gold. In the Breakfast category BBC London 94.9's Jono and Jo Breakfast Show pits its metropolitan strength against the breakfasy offerings of Mark Cummings and BBC Radio Gloucestershire and Rod Whiting of BBC Radio Lincolnshire.. Fontaine to co-host London show

Valley Fontaine is to become Dotun Adebayo's new co-host on BBC London 94.9's programme for black Londoners (Sundays 8.00-10.0pm) from 20 August 2006. The programme, which is produced by the BBC London Community Affairs Unit, covers news and issues affecting London's black communities. Valley says, "I'm really excited about joining a show that offers a unique perspective on current affairs as they affect black Londoners. And as someone who enjoys lively debate, I'm really looking forward to working with Dotun and thrashing out the issues with the show's diverse audience." (more)

Valley Fontaine is to become Dotun Adebayo's new co-host on BBC London 94.9's programme for black Londoners (Sundays 8pm to 10pm) from 20th August 2006. The radio programme, which is produced by the BBC London Community Affairs Unit, covers news and issues affecting London's black communities. Valley Fontaine has worked for BBC London for five years where she combines the roles of presenter and broadcast journalist with TV reporting and camera work.. (more)
