Two apply for Hereford DAB

Ofcom has received two applications for the Herefordshire & Worcestershire local digital radio multiplex licence. They are MuxCo Hereford and Worcester Limited, and Now Digital Ltd. MuxCo investors include Murfin Media and Town and Country Broadcasting. Now Digital is fully owned by GCap Media. (more)

Laser win first licence

Laser Broadcasting have won their first analogue radio licence from Ofcom, with their application for Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. The group already have two nearby stations - Classic Hits Hereford and Worcester and Sunshine 855 (Ludlow and South Shropshire). (more)

There has been a large increase in the number of listeners tuning in to BBC Hereford & Worcester each week, according to the latest official figures released by RAJAR. The figures show that 142,000 people in Hereford and Worcester listen to BBC Hereford & Worcester each week – that is an extra 20,000 listeners who have joined the station since May 2006. There has also been an increase in weekly reach from 24% to 28% over the same period. (more)

Laser purchases Quaywest and BCR

Laser Broadcasting has today announced that it has reached agreement with Choice Media to purchase Quaywest fm based in West Somerset and BCR fm based in Bridgwater. This is one of a number of purchases agreed by Laser Broadcasting including Classic Hits in Hereford and Worcester and Sunshine in Ludlow. (more)

The future of Laser

Laser Broadcasting have recently announced the purchase of two new stations: Classic Hits in Hereford and Worcester and Ludlow's Sunshine 558. Over the past number of years, the company have devoted their attentions towards winning new local radio licences up and down the country - from Hull to Northallerton, and from Torbay to Chorley - with in most cases the 'Local Radio' format, a full service proposal.
