Lincs FM is all show

Lincs FM is once again operating the RSL Lincolnshire Show Radio next month. It's the tenth year the station has been on air, broadcasting exclusive interviews, reports and travel news for the agricultural event. (more)

Ofcom awards four, rejects one

In Ofcom's latest community radio awards, four groups have been granted a 10 year licence, whilst one, South Holland Radio in Whaplode, Lincolnshire has been rejected. (more)

MuxCo win Lincolnshire DAB

Ofcom has awarded the DAB multiplex licence for Lincolnshire to MuxCo. The company, led by former GCap execs Gregory Watson and Matt Deegan, was the only applicant for the licence. The Lincs FM Group will have a majority shareholding in the multiplex. (more)

Lincs FM plans country station

Lincs FM has teamed up with MuxCo to apply for the local digital radio multiplex covering Lincolnshire. The sole applicant proposes five new services, including a 24 hour country music station named Lincs Country, UCB and Traffic Radio. (more)

32 more community applications

Ofcom has received 32 applications for community radio licences in West Midlands, East Midlands and Lincolnshire. One of the applications for a station in the Birmingham area is being considering by the regulator as to whether it is valid under the published guidelines. (more)

Radio Kent Journalist Jonathan Witchell Dies

BBC Radio Kent broadcast journalist Jonathan Witchell died last weekend at the age of 33 following a short illness. Jonathan was with Radio Kent for 10 years and has also worked at Radio Devon and Radio Lincolnshire. . (more)

Lincolnshire DAB advertised

Ofcom has advertised a new DAB digital radio multiplex licence to cover most of Lincolnshire. The new licence is expected to reach an adult population of 670,000. The new multiplex could add up to a dozen new radio services for the area. (more)

More stations for Birmingham

Ofcom has invited applications for community radio stations to operate in the east midlands, west midlands and Lincolnshire. And because previously licenced stations have not made it to air in Birmingham, Ofcom say two frequencies may be available for new applicantions in this next stage of awards. (more)

Radio Lincolnshire & Hallam FM Favourites in Yorks & Lincs

The Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Lincolnshire with Rod Whiting and the Drivetime Show on Hallam FM with Kam Kelly have been voted the Best in Yorks & Lincs in a poll run by Merry Media.Over the past couple of months, Merry Media has been moving from region to region across the UK to find the best breakfast and drivetime shows on the radio with votes coming from within the radio industry as well as businesses and listeners.Rod Whiting came top of the breakfast show poll with his show on BBC Radio Lincolnshire with 11% of the votes, second place was Daryl Denham on Real Radio, and in third place was Simon Logan on Radio Aire.. BBC appoints Yorkshire boss

The BBC in Yorkshire has a new Head of Region responsible for all television, radio and online services across the county. Leeds-born Helen Thomas takes up the post this week, moving from from Hull, where she was in charge of BBC output for East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Andy Griffee, Controller, BBC English Regions, said: "I am delighted to announce that Helen Thomas has been appointed as the new Head of the Yorkshire Region, based out of Leeds." (more)

Frank Gillard Award Nominations 2006

The nominations for this years Frank Gillard Awards have been announced today. A record number of 25 stations  have achieved nominations in the awards which celebrate BBC Local Radio. BBC London 94.9 leads the field by being nominated in five categories and BBC Radio Berkshire with three will be hoping that lightning can strike twice - last year the station converted all three of its nominations to gold. In the Breakfast category BBC London 94.9's Jono and Jo Breakfast Show pits its metropolitan strength against the breakfasy offerings of Mark Cummings and BBC Radio Gloucestershire and Rod Whiting of BBC Radio Lincolnshire.. New technology for BBC Locals

A pocket computer phone is set to revolutionise newsrooms and newsgathering across BBC Local Radio. Earlier this year BBC Radio Lincolnshire linked up with the Maastricht-based Technica del Arte to transform a pocket PC phone, the XDA, into a professional recording device capable of sending high quality sound down a mobile phone line or from a wi-fi spot. Viking FM to host Radio Idol

96.9 Viking FM is looking for a co-presenter for the Breakfast Show whilst Sam Heywood is on maternity leave. Radio Idol is launched this weekend and will see the radio station searching the region for the next big thing! Open auditions will be held across East Yorkshire & North East Lincolnshire and anyone who impresses the judges will receive a ‘golden ticket’ to the next round. (more)

BBC show for Martin Daniels

Actor, comedian and magician Martin Daniels is set to join BBC Radio Lincolnshire as a regular presenter. Martin, son of magician Paul, is well known to Lincolnshire audiences for his starring roles in the Lincoln Theatre Royal's pantomimes. His background also includes TV, the stage and, of course, magic. (more)

My Mentor: John Inverdale On Danny Baker

I started working in radio on BBC Radio Lincolnshire in 1982 but I didn't come across Danny until I came down to London in the mid-1980s, when he was a television presenter. I then started listening to him on Radio 5, the precursor to Five Live, where he was doing the morning show. (more)
