Merseyside station KCR 106.7 has been bought by a consortium headed by group chairman and presenter Jon Jessop.The purchase means another end to the name KCR, as the station will re-launch as 106.7 The Edge later this year. (more)
Dune FM sold to KCR

Southport's 107.9 Dune FM has been sold by The Local Radio Company to KCR owner Ray Furguson, RadioToday.co.uk has learnt.KCR 106.7 is Dune FM's neighbouring station, both based on Merseyside with a distance of 15 miles between the stations. (more)
Four rejected in Cheshire

Ofcom has awarded four new community radio licences to groups in the north west of England today, whilst rejecting five more. Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and Staffordshire will all gain additional services whilst four out of the five rejections were in Cheshire along with Southport Community Radio. (more)

BBC Radio Merseyside is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month. The station launched on 22nd November 1967 with a live broadcast from a Mersey ferry presented by the then station editor Michael Hancock.. (more)

BBC lose out in NW England

The BBC's local radio stations covering Lancashire, Manchester and Merseyside lost a total of 56,000 listeners in the three months to the end of June compared with the previous quarter. Radio Manchester's demise continued further in the Q2/07 RAJAR figures - 83,000 listeners have now switched off over the last 12 months. It's a different story in the south of England - with some of the better gains for BBC local radio. (more)

Comedian Sean Styles will be the new mid-morning presenter on BBC Radio Merseyside. He will host the show from 10am until noon from 28 August, on the day of Liverpool's 800th birthday.. (more)

Liverpool comedian Sean Styles is set to take over the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Merseyside. Sean currently hosts a Sunday show on the station with co-host and comedy partner Willie Millar, but he will go it alone each morning from 10am till midday from August 28th. (more)

Tony Snell is to take over BBC Radio Merseyside's breakfast show, following the recent departure of Simon O'Brien. Tony switches from mid-mornings and will start the new show at the end of August - on Liverpool's 800th birthday. O'Brien quit last month after a recording of him swearing was broadcast by mistake. BBC breakfast presenter quits

BBC Radio Merseyside's breakfast show host Simon O'Brien has resigned from his position. The news comes after many complaints reached the station following a trail which was broadcast featuring a four letter word. Co-host Lucinda Moore is now listed online as the sole breakfast presenter on the station. (more)

BBC Merseyside paints the city

BBC Radio Merseyside's launched a new marketing campaign to promote the county - by spraying graffiti-style messages on the streets of Liverpool. The "Made on Merseyside" stamp's been plastered on pavements overnight, but will fade within a couple of weeks. The idea's to highlight everything that's good about Merseyside and what lies at the heart of the radio station. (more)

Emap DJ Pete Price arrested

Radio City 96.7 late night phone-in host Pete Price will be arrested and locked up - in aid of charity. He is supporting the Stroke Association's Liverpool Jail and Bail event, which is raising money to help local people living with the affects of stroke throughout Merseyside. He won't be let out until enough money has been raised for his bail. (more)

TLRC Sell The Rocket

The Local Radio Company (TLRC) has sold Merseyside radio station 106.7 The Rocket to original owner Ray Ferguson for £100,000 in cash, £40,000 of which is deferred.. (more)

The Local Radio Company have sold another station which failed to make a profit during their ownership. East Merseyside station 106.7 The Rocket has been sold back to original owner Ray Ferguson and a colleague for a total of £100,000 in cash. TLRC bought the station in January 2005 for over 500 thousand pounds. (more)

I met Geraldine in 1989 at BBC Radio Merseyside, shortly before I began my BBC reporter training. We also worked together at Granada on This Morning, when it was still broadcast from Liverpool. Geraldine produced the phone-in element and I was a "phone-in girl". (more)

Eight community licences explained

On Thursday 11th May, Ofcom's Radio Licensing Committee awarded eight community radio licences. These awards are the last in Ofcom's first round of community radio licensing, which began with the receipt of 194 applications in November 2004. From these, Ofcom has now awarded a total of 107 community radio licences.
The eight new stations will be: 7 Waves Radio on the Wirral in Merseyside, Talkin' Toxteth TTFM in Liverpool, Halton FM in Runcorn, Cheshire FM for Mid Cheshire, Diversity FM in Lancaster, Chelmsford Calling in Essex, Saint FM in Burnham-On-Crouch and BRFM which will serve the community on the Isle of Sheppey.
