Sports commentator Barry Davies, 70, has been broadcasting for over 40 years. He has covered 10 World Cups, 10 Olympic Games, seven Winter Olympics, seven Commonwealth Games and many Wimbledons. On Saturday he reprises his role as "Voice of the Boat Race", commentating for LBC Radio. He lives in Datchet, Berkshire, with his wife Penny, whom he met on his first job for BBC Radio. Their daughter, Giselle, is director of communications for the International Olympic Committee, and their son, Barry, is managing director of the online betting shop Betfair. (more)

BBC Berkshire in Google Maps experiment

Frank Gillard Award Nominations 2006

The nominations for this years Frank Gillard Awards have been announced today. A record number of 25 stations  have achieved nominations in the awards which celebrate BBC Local Radio. BBC London 94.9 leads the field by being nominated in five categories and BBC Radio Berkshire with three will be hoping that lightning can strike twice - last year the station converted all three of its nominations to gold. In the Breakfast category BBC London 94.9's Jono and Jo Breakfast Show pits its metropolitan strength against the breakfasy offerings of Mark Cummings and BBC Radio Gloucestershire and Rod Whiting of BBC Radio Lincolnshire.. BBC Radio Berkshire & Reading FC Team Up

Reading Football Club and BBC Radio Berkshire announced yesterday a new broadcasting and promotional deal that will see commentary on the club's matches being broadcast next season on the BBC station. The future of match coverage was the subject of speculation following the announcment that the two parties were initially unable to agree terms. However, after more talks between the club and the BBC both parties were able to agree a partnership that will see Radio Berkshire continue its popular service of commentaries, news and other programming following the Royals progress.. Reading FC deal for Radio Berkshire

Reading Football Club and BBC Radio Berkshire have agreed a new broadcasting and promotional deal that will see commentary on the club's matches being broadcast next season on the BBC station. The future of match coverage was the subject of speculation following the announcement that the two parties were initially unable to agree terms. However, after more talks between the club and the BBC both parties were able to agree a partnership that will see Radio Berkshire continue its popular service of commentaries, news and other programming following the Royals' progress. The station's popular commentary team of Joel Hufford and Tim Dellor will be joined by ex-Reading player Mick Gooding. (more)

New studio for Reading

Hospital Radio Reading have become the latest hospital radio station to install the Sonifex S2 Solutions Studio Package. The station, known on-air as Blast 1386 took advantage of a move from Battle Hospital in West Reading to the site of Royal Berkshire Hospital to ditch all their old equipment in favour of a complete new station package based around Sonifex S2 (also recently installed recently launched ILR stations such as 107 The Bee in Blackburn) and the Myriad automation and playout computer software from PSquared. Lizz Loxam joins Radio Berkshire

BBC Radio Berkshire has appointed Lizz Loxam as Acting Editor while current Editor, Marianne Bell, is on a year’s maternity leave. Lizz will join the station in May. Lizz is a highly experienced BBC producer, manager and editor. She is passionate about local radio and Berkshire in particular and is keen on community projects. (more)

Milestone dispose of Rugby FM

Further to the announcement made on 1 February 2006, Milestone announces it has today completed the sale of its beneficial controlling shareholdings in Kestrel FM Limited ('Kestrel FM') and West Berkshire Radio Limited ('Kick FM') to Provincial Broadcasting Companies Limited ('Provincial'). Additionally, Milestone confirms it intends to seek to complete the proposed disposal of its beneficial controlling shareholding in Rugby Broadcasting Company Limited ('Rugby FM') to CN Group Limited on or before 27 February 2006. GMG Radio sell stake in Reading 107

GMG Radio have sold their 60.3% share in Berkshire station Reading 107 to the Goodhead Group plc, a company controlled by Reading Football club chairman John Madejski. GMG Radio took control of the station just three months ago when they increased their share from 37.8% to 60.3% after Milestone Radio Group decided to sell its stake. (more)
