Mogadishu mayor spurns radio pleas to resume broadcasts

The mayor of Mogadishu yesterday spurned pleas by three radio stations to resume broadcasting, a fortnight after they were pulled off air for allegedly fanning insurgency, radio managers said. GMG signs sales deal with GCap

Suspended jail term for Kershaw

More jazz for BBC Radio 3

BBC Radio 3 has extended its deal with the London Jazz Festival for an extra four years. The station continues to be the principal media partner, as it has been since 2001. The new deal will run from 2008 to 2012 and will offer international radio coverage to the events. (more)

BBC Radio 3 and former Radio 1 presenter Andy Kershaw has been released on bail after appearing in court charged with breaching a restraining order.
Kershaw was arrested on the Isle of Man on Wednesday, near the home of his former partner, Juliette Banner. He was remanded in custody.

In a review of radio consolidation in today's Business Scotsman, GMG Radio boss John Myers talks about recent events regarding the possible merger of UTV and SMG.

Celebration of Music Radio

Last night saw the Celebration of Music Radio take place in London. Phill Jupitus hosted the evening, and the show started with Beverly Knight – who had previously appeared as a show case artist at Music Radio several years ago. The Zutons also played. The evening presentations and Awards finished with Embrace who played their number 2 single, Nature’s Law and Gravity.
PPL Lifetime Achievement Award wasAwarded to Roger Daltrey. Fran Nevrkla the chairman of PPL said a few words – on this the second year of the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Award was presented to Roger Daltrey by Andy Kershaw, BBC Radio 3.
