Scotland?s First Minister backs Scottish digital channel

The creation of a publicly funded digital channel dedicated to Scottish coverage is to be championed by Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond.

End of the road for Hitz

Scotland's Business Hero of the Year Ryan Dunlop has closed down his internet station Hitz Radio, whilst 'upgrading' takes place.It is thought the station will be silent all summer to carry out the upgrades, with owner, chief executive, station director and drivetime DJ Ryan saying the station will be back. GMG wants to Rock Dublin

GMG Radio has emerged as 45 per cent shareholder in a bid for a new classic rock service for Dublin City and County. Classic Rock Radio is just one of three bidders, along with Dublin Rock Radio and Radio Nova.Classic Rock Radio 100.3's application, if successful, would mean a forth station for GMG's rock brand, which is already operating in Scotland, Manchester and the north east of England. Bauer Appoints Scotland Programme Director

The relatively recent new owner of Scottish radio stations such as Clyde and Northsound has appointed a new regional programme director for Scotland.

Orange deal for Xfm network

Sundays Battle for North of Scotland Readership

It looks as if Scotland on Sunday and the Sunday Herald are to lock horns in a battle to woo new readers in the north and and north-east of Scotland.

Xfm cuts more local hours

Ofcom has approved a format change for Xfm London, Scotland and Manchester, allowing them to network another three hours a day. This latest change reduces the amount of locally made programmes on each station to just seven each weekday, including breakfast. (more)

Real contrast for GMG

GMG Radio’s Smooth Radio stations had enjoyed a successful set of audience figures, with increases in audience across all five measured Smooth stations.However the Real/Century brand failed to perform as well, with Real Radio Scotland losing 10 per cent of its audience and 100 - 102 Century Radio's market share reaching a record low in the station's history. There are no changes planned for following EPG categories Documentaries, Sports, Adult and Radio.
Sky plans to implement a marketing campaign through a number of different media prior to the changes taking place in order to inform viewers of the changes.
The new channel line up is currently scheduled to be implemented on a genre by genre basis between 05:00 and 08:00 on the dates specified below.

Radio programme looks at history of Asians in police force

A programme on BBC Radio Scotland will chart the history of Asian and BME (Black and Ethinc Minority) officers in the Scottish Police Forces.
Producer and presenter Ravi Sagoo looks at 40 years since Dilawer Singh joined Strathclyde Police Force in 1968 making him Scotland's first Asian police officer.
The programme will show that joining as an Asian was a challenge in being accepted after he was questioned by a superior about wearing a turban, alongside racism in the line of duty.
Ravi Sagoo is a former BBC new talent winner and has been a regular presenter on BBC Radio Scotland across music and sport and also on The BBC Asian Network. He also has the third series of the Asian Urban music programme â Ravi Sagoo & Tigerstyle Presentsâ ¦â airing this summer on BBC Radio Scotland.

Hardeep Singh Kohli, 38, is a writer and broadcaster. He reports for BBC1's The One Show and has presented Newsnight Review and Radio 4's Saturday Live and Loose Ends. He makes radio documentaries with his production company, Above The Title, most recently The Hippy Trail. He grew up in Glasgow, where he first joined the BBC on Radio Scotland, and now lives in London with his wife. He is currently working with RTS Futures, the Royal Television Society's venture to encourage young people to work in television. (more)

The Breakfast Show on Rock Radio with Kieron Elliott and the Drivetime Show on Forth One with Yasmin Zemmoura have been voted the Best in Southern Scotland in a poll run by Merry Media.Over the past couple of months, Merry Media has been moving from region to region across the UK to find the best breakfast and drivetime shows on the radio with votes coming from within the radio industry as well as businesses and listeners.Kieron Elliott's show received 12% of the votes, followed by Robin Galloway's breakfast show on sister station Real Radio with 11% of the votes. Real Radio Scotland have been working their magic, and helping Glasgow's IMAX cinema beat its own ticket sales records. Nearly 10,000 tickets had been sold for the 3D film theatre in advance of the new Harry Potter film after a special on-air promotion. Real Radio winners were among those at the premiere too. (more)
BBC Scotland launches new Asian show

BBC Scotland is launching a month-long Asian orientated show with ex-BBC Asian Network presenter Ravi Sagoo.
Last summer, BBC Scotland aired a 'Tigerstyle Presents...' programme, which proved immensely popular. The new programme will be a follow-up to last year's show with a focus on Asian Urban music. The Bhangra duo Tigerstyle (Raj and Pops) will guest on the show as weekly guest contributors / session artists.
Ravi Sagoo went on to win the BBC’s New Talent Radio Presenter Search 2005/06, which lead him to front the Asian Network's Chart Show. His contract came to an end earlier this year and the programme was relaunched last month with former Club Asia presenter Noreen Khan.
'Ravi Sagoo and Tigerstyle Present...' will air between Tuesday 3rd July to Tuesday 7th August at 20:00 on BBC Scotland.
