GCap Media increase networking across 42 radio stations

Dan takes over BRMB drive

BRMB evening presenter Dan Morrissey is set to take over drivetime on the GCap station from December 10th, as current presenter Rick Vaughn heads back to Emap. Tim Denning from Kerrang! will make the move across Birmingham to host the BRMB evening show. (more)

Smooth hires BRMB sales boss

GMG Radio has appointed Jane Davies as sales director for its Smooth Radio station in the west midlands. Jane joins Smooth Radio from BRMB where she is currently Head of Sales and will take up the position, based in Birmingham, on 7th January next year. (more)

Nick Jackson joins Virgin

Former BRMB drive-time presenter Nick Jackson is joining Virgin Radio as host of the weekend breakfast show. He has previously worked for Original 106, Century FM and Trent FM. His new show, each Saturday and Sunday from 6am till 10am starts this weekend. (more)

BRMB's win a trip to Brum

BRMB recently ran a competition to win tickets to Athens and watch the Champions League final. They just forgot to mention that Athens is a local restaurant with a big screen telly, until six days in. Enter Ofcom with an official complaint. (more)

Ex-GCap jocks join JACK

BRMB jock moves to RAM

More football for Beacon Radio

Beacon Radio is increasing it's football coverage this coming season. As well as commentaries on every Wolverhampton game, the GCap Media station will be providing commentary on all West Bromwich Albion matches too. Beacon will also be linking with BRMB for a Friday night phone-in. (more)

Xfm to launch within months

Xfm South Wales is set to launch before the end of the year, and has announced its first two marketing appointments. Lisa Fairclough joins from sister-station Red Dragon FM, whilst new Events Manager Nick Miles rejoins GCap Media, having previously worked at BRMB and Capital. (more)

New drivetime host for BRMB

Following the sudden binning of Tom Binns from BRMB Drivetime last week, Rick Vaughn, a former evening show host at the station, is to take over the show from February 14th. Rick most recently presented Drive Time on Emap station Rock FM in Lancashire. (more)

Major shake-up at BRMB

There have been some on-air changes this week at GCap station BRMB. News about breakfast show host Elliott Webb leaving the programme made the Birmingham Mail with a story which lead to an on-air rant by co-host Caroline Martin, saying what complete rubbish the article is. (more)

Les Ross goes daily at WM

Former BRMB breakfast presenter Les Ross is going back to his roots by returning to a daily show on BBC WM in Birmingham. He began his radio career at the station (known then as Radio Birmingham) in 1970, and has been presenting a weekly show since February 2005. (more)

BRMB stars in billboard hoax

BRMB has made the national headlines once again in various newspapers over a billboard advert in Birmingham which claims to have been arranged by a listener. The ad exposes a cheating husband, and offers a myspace address for more information which conveniently contains links to BRMB's breakfast hosts Elliott and Caroline. (more)

Gordon Davidson New PD of Radio Clyde

Emap have hired Gordon Davidson as the new Programme Director of Radio Clyde. Davidson will begin his new job in September joining the station he listened to while growing up - although he stayed in Lincoln - he took trips to Scotland due to his dad father being a Rutherglen man. Davidson will bring a wealth of experience with him to Radio Clyde having worked at the Local Radio Company as Group Programme Director and other station like Virgin Radio, BRMB and Century. The Programme Director position has been vacant since the departure of Ross Macfadyen.. (more)

Gordon Davidson hired by Emap

Radio Clyde has hired Gordon Davidson as their new Programme Director starting in September. Gordon takes up the post at Radio Clyde having most recently worked as Group Programme Director at the Local Radio Company. He has a wealth of experience having worked at a number of stations and groups including Virgin Radio, BRMB, Kerrang, Century and BBC local radio. (more)

Reality Radio for Absolute

Whilst the global TV phenomenon that is “reality” continues its juggernaut into the lives of billions across the globe, and on-line reality promotions are starting to emerge, American radio has now also joined the party with ‘reality radio’ being introduced by newly created US based consultancy Absolute & Dowse. America’s initial introduction to reality radio was via 95.5 KLOS – Los Angeles and 95.5 WPLJ - New York with the globally successful “2 Strangers & a Wedding” in which the audience select a bride and her groom from self-nominated candidates, then tune in as the couple literally meet for the first time just before walking down the aisle to say “I do”. This ‘matrimonial social experiment’ was also a hit in markets such as the UK on 96.4FM BRMB, New Zealand, Ireland, Eastern Europe and Australia where reality radio is almost as prevalent as reality TV.
